Wish these threads reset automatically at the beginning of the month. But at least I remembered on the 1st this time.

I'm closing in on finishing Alice (to my regret, I want to stay there) and will go back to Henry and Wolf Hall.

Well, I'm not done but I am enjoying the somewhat shocking twists and turns. Was this based on a true story at all? There's an Author's Notes afterword but I don't want to read it til I finish.

I really like these people a lot--what's not to like, right?

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

Anyone else reading this yet?
Fascinating but a bit hard to follow as Mantel doesn't always identify who is talking or the background history. It's really good enough to try and of course the history is powerful. It's the point at which Henry VIII decides to ditch Katherine for Anne Boleyn so he can have a son and the involvement of Thomas Cromwell.

Is anyone reading this? I don't know what I was thinking scheduling this so close to the other two. Sorry. I'm kind of reluctant to push it back much because I doubt it will generate much discussion from what one or two others have said.

What do you think? Should we just make it a board discussion as people get to it (ie, no specific date)? Or push back the chat a week?

So, as the title suggests i'm looking for a good, spooky book or multiple books to read this fall. Now, I do NOT want to read a straight up horror book. I'm simply not that into the horror genre.

Need to figure out our Nov/Dec schedule. Since several people already reserved the book, should we slide A TOWN LIKE ALICE in on Nov 14th and push A HIGH WIND IN JAMAICA back into Dec? Thanksgiving seems to be on Nov 26th.

Or, should we just put Alice into December? Or, should we not have a separate chat for Alice?

So many good books coming out in the next few weeks---sigh You decide

Tom, from the last thread--I was able to buy labels with postage through the USPS--is that what you mean? Or just stamps themselves?

Ok, I'm so confused by this latest bruhaha over David Letterman. I know I know it's beneath us, but you also know everyone is talking about it today. There seem to be at least two issues:

Office affairs--of the heart or just the body. If he didn't abuse his power to coerce these women, what is the big deal? Doesn't...

Many of us responded to the idea of reading A TOWN LIKE ALICE by Nevil Shute It sounds good and should be available at the library. Any takers for adding it to our reads?

Since it's fresh from the publishers, I thought I'd post the chapter breaks Olle was kind enough to give us. It might be hard to stop that many times though. Any suggestions about how to break it into 3 or 4 instead of 5? Combine some of those middle chapters?
