Hello Book Bunch! I'm Sherry, and a few of you know me from AOL message boards. I'm reading more than ever now that I've retired from teaching,
plus doing some artwork and traveling. I'm looking for a place where the majority of the conversation is about books, hoping I found it. I still love my
Mac, but have begun keeping my book lists online, since I tend to keep my computers until they die, and I lose my lists. So, I have lists of books and reviews
on Shelfari and GoodReads. I read The Secret History in about 1996, and in keeping with my pledge not to reread for groups, won't join in on that title,
but if I get Harvest Home, Tin Roof Blowdown, and Harvest Home done, I'll take a look at Death With Interruptions. Meanwhile I'll probably lurk until I
can figure out the format here. Sherry in WI

Hi ya Sherry (we caught up a bit in a couple of emails today)--welcome back. Gosh doesn't being retired sound great!
we're finished with Secret History and I'm about to open a thread for Death With Interruptions, so I'd guess you'd be in time for that if you'd like to join in. Have you read any Saramago? Blindness maybe? Lurk or post, suit yourself til you're comfortable. Rema, Olle, and Betsy are around here somewhere--I think you know them and Trillaja (Mary), Tom (from Chicago), and Sandra (Bay Joens)? I can't remember the exact timing. Lots of good folks here.

Hi my name is Kat. I currently live in Pennsylvania however we are moving to Northern Maine next month. I have been an avid reader since I was seven. I have
read several genre's and tend to stay in the mystery, sci-fi, spy, genres. I also really like biographies of historical leaders.
I am married with two girls (14 and 9). My 14 year old is hooked on Brian Jacques's Redwall series at the moment. I own Thirteenth Tale and have been wanting to read it, so I look forward to Dec's read. I will locate the Nov read and get started. I am currently finishing up an Agatha Christie book ( I bought all the Hercule Poiroit books and read them between my other books) and starting Patriot Games by Tom Clancy. I usually read about 4 books a month sometimes more. Although the next couple of months may be less due to the move. Favorite books: I have really enjoyed almost all of the Agatha Christie books I have read so far (about 20 of them), Any Richard Bach book, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, Any JRR Tolkien books, and many more. |

Welcome Kat,
My kids and I like the Redwall books too, although I'll admit to only having read 1/2 the books in that series. It's nice and long. Agatha is comfort food for me, I can get lost in her books easily. Good luck with the move, such a stressful time it can be. I know you'll want to get settled before the heaviest snow falls. How many boxes of books are moving? :) Glad you found us.

Hi ya Kat you're actually a lucky dog moving to Maine. Good luck with the move--the nice thing is you can take us with you ! Happy to have you join in.
(btw one of the places I've lived is Bucks County PA--what part of the state are yuo leaving?)
I got hooked on Christie very early (liked Poirot a lot more than Miss Marple then) and worked my way through most of the British mystery writers. And Americans writing as though they were Brits. Lots of us are mystery fans. You'll probably be better off starting with The Thirteenth Tale than with our current book. You'd think we were 'elitists' if you judge by the Saramago (we're not though). Saramago for some reason, leaves out a lot of traditional punctuation and quote marks to distinguish who is talking. Not an easy thing to concentrate on when you're trying to move. Jump on in to any thread and start talking away--I know you'll get a warm welcome.

Hi Kat! Are you ready for the winter which has started in Maine already? Lucky that you read since you may be stuck inside for large portions of the year
there! That's the nice thing about reading; you don't mind being snowed in and in fact, you look forward to it! What takes you to northern ME? I was
born and grew up in Bryn Mawr, PA, outside Philadelphia but that was a long, looong time ago! I share your enthusiasm for mysteries so we can compare notes!

Hi Everyone!
I havent read the Redwall series, but April is really enjoying them. She is trying to read them in order, but has skipped around a little. There are now 20 books in that series and she has read about 8. So she will be busy with them for a while. My mom is a huge Christie fan but I never read them. Last year I came across Poirot's Christmas and have been hooked since. They are easy books I can read just to relax and can usually finish them in one sitting. I keep a lot of cozy mysteries to read between larger books, or to take a break during a larger book. I originally came from Southern New Jersey near Atlantic City. I moved to the Poconos when I was 17 to live with my grandmother. I met my husband and been here ever since. I live in Wind Gap, PA (Northampton County). We have turned into a suburb of New York since 9/11 and my husband and I both long for the simpler life that use to be in this area. My dad moved to Maine a while back and we decided it was time to follow him. We will be about an hour north of Bangor near Mt Katahdin. So far the temp in Maine is the same as here in PA so not too worried. We have been to my dad's in February before, so we know what we are getting ourselves into. I just wish it all would have worked out sooner so we could be up there already. Thanks for the welcome, Kat |

Hi ya Brat Happy Birthday and welcome--hope you'll make this your home away from home. Lots of ages well represented here including the 60s so get comfy.
Jump into any of the other threads and pick up a conversation any old place. You'll never catch up so don't bother trying LOL. You can get a feeling for what we've read as a group and what we thought several ways: there's a link to our BB previous reads and you can look in our archives for past discussions and chat logs under their book titles. That's if you're feeling energetic and curious. Otherwise, just start with today... We're reading The Thirteenth Tale for our next discussion--hope you'll join in.

Welcome Brat! (I feel odd calling a 61-year-old that!) Happy birthday and welcome to our group. GWTW is also one of my faves; I re-read it every now and then,
and have the extended movie version with all the little movie promos and screen tests and such.
