I read it earlier this year and I think Jill read it years ago. I read several of the Guido Brunetti mysteries a few months ago. In a few of them you never get
to a real resolution, though; Ms Leon seems to be constantly making the point about Italian and Venetian corruption when she does that.
They give a delicious sense of Venice though and I love them for that. |

Yuppers, I've read several of the Brunetti books and my faves were the two opera-related ones, Death at La Fenice and the other one that featured the opera
star and her friend. The others were fairly good, imo, but not as engaging.
Do you prefer series with continuing characters Jenn? That's my preference. For a quite different series, try the Charles Todd (au) books, set right after WWI |

LOL I like that: cybrary. I hope you enjoy Test of Wills, but if you don't, don't be shy about it. that will help with future suggestions (or
avoidances).

I am LOVING ToW so far ... I have also requested A Clubbable Woman (by Reginald Higgins, the first D&P mystery) based on the rec in the Antihero Theme Shelf Oh, and to answer the question about series; yes, I love series as long as they are actually distinct - if it's the same book over and over again (yes, I'm looking at YOU, Janet Evanovich) then no thank you; if each is interesting in itself (like Roma Sub Rosa series) then I'm along for the ride and love to see the characters develop

I´ve read about 7-8 of her books and I love it. She has good locations and injects stories about Italian society nicely in between solving the mysteries. I
can´t really say what is the best book from her. I like the characters and it´s nice to see them in every book again. It doesn´t make me want to visit Venice
though!

LOL Jenn, it was so long ago that I read it, I don't remember the specifics. The part I love the most about the series is the relationship between Hamish
and Rutledge and the information about the war.

Agreed, the Ian/Hamish subdialogue is totally creepy (and I mean that in a good way) |

Yes, the fun is in how Rutledge and Hamish relate to each other. |
