Couldn't see our adding to Mt TBR thread so started a new one for 2008.
Had a visit to the library and came home with far more than I meant to, considering I still have a few I haven't read. Got a bit carried away with the
thought of a few weeks of long lazy days. Anyway adding to what I already have...

Gone with the Windsors -Laurie Graham
Body Double -Tess Gerritsen - never read anything of hers but a friend loves them.
Cold Granite - Stuart McBride - again, a new author to me but I read review somewhere praising his crime fiction - this is the first of 3
books he's written so far set in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Well, I didn't find either of our books (Painted Veil or Hansen's Jesse James) at the UBS, but of course, I didn't leave empty handed.
The mostly true story of Mary Lamb, Mad Mary Lamb, looks interesting (sister of Charles Lamb who murdered her mother) Living to Tell the Truth, autobiography of the early period of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, including his youth in the town on which he based 100 Years of Solitude. And two Robert Crais Elvis Cole mysteries.

A couple of mysteries from the library stack tonight - The Draining lake (Inridason) and Murder at the Savoy (Sjowall and Wahloo). I tried for Crow Lake but it
was out - wanted to have a taste of her writing before A Bridge too Far. I also went for an unknown (to me anyway) Tokyo Year Zero (David Pearce) - a novel

I didn't add to the TBR pile, but just wanted to say I liked the lyrical sound of using Christmas tokens to buy books rather than Christmas gift cards.

I tried to post this comment last night and Yuku absolutely would not take it (kept sending me to a maintenance page).
Tokyo Year Zero is one the books that was an LT Early Reviewer release in October, I believe it was. I requested it but didn't get it, but I did think it looked interesting, Chris. Let me know how you like it and maybe I'll give it a go.

Yes Kathy, you're quite right in thinking that in the UK book 'tokens' are simply gift vouchers. Don't know why we call them tokens...

Karen, I typed a post last night too but was banished to the same page and couldn't get back to BCC at all.
Anyway Chris, I'll be interested to hear what the Indridason is like. I've read about him somewhere - was it here? - and tried to get it out of the library but it wasn't in. I was cleaning out some drawers today - being at home seems to have woken some long dormant housekeeping thing, hope it's not permanent - and found some vouchers tucked away - a couple had expired but not the book ones - I have $30 to spend at Borders and another $70 at Whitcoulls, oh bliss!!!! I have a gift card from Curt for $50 at Borders which is pretty fine by me! I also got a carton of books today from Bob in Austin. Riches!

And I just emptied my BooksAMillion gift card today for Lies, Zookeeper's Wife, the Assassination of Jesse James, and Painted Veil. YAY Let's see how
long they take to get them here--Amazon it would be a few days.

It's a book store chain, not a very good one IMHO, but that's where my gift 'token' was from. It's supposedly discounted, but Amazon is
usually less and BAM doesn't have a great selection in-store; the internet tore is ok but I won't be back. How's that for a non-recommendation?

Returned a whole lot to the library - before they were due back so escaped the dreaded fines (New Years resolution - try to avoid fines!) and came back with a

They're a bit down the track, Jane - I'm still ploughing my way through about 3 left from my last visit to the library. The crime ones will come with
me when we leave this weekend. Time for the annual week's camping - although we won't be camping this year, having rented a holiday house. We leave
this Saturday.
