Getting to read this in such short bits that I can't tell if it's my short term memory or whether new characters are showing up LOL. I have to flip back and see if I know who they are and start keeping notes. I didn't realize at first that Emma is Eva's daughter, not her sister. It's also weird that I just did a research piece on electroconvulsive therapy (shock therapy)--doooo dooo de dah. It's making a comeback as a therapy for depression. I got it on interloan from the central library and they've demanded it back - even though I renewed it a week ago going through the proper channels - no, they want it now the librarian said to me, please get it down asap. What a cheek - I wish I hadn't answered the phone. Anyway I was up to page 150-ish and at that point I was at a loss to know where the storyline was going....and I have a question for those of you who have finished - I don't think it is a spoiler... Lafferty has been more or less a peripheral character up until this point, does he begin to investigate Eva's death ? I recall reading earlier on Towner heard Eva saying to her (in her mind) that her death was no accident... Midwives help people out. 09/15/08 02:50 PM BCC BookieMonster	They process interloans differently - I couldn't renew it online so had to phsically take it down, which I did, a week ago and got it renewed out to the 22nd sep. But the renewals desk did not forward the details onto the interloan desk in the same building - hence the phone call to bering it down and renew it again - but when I got down there - sorry no way. If I'd known that - I wouldn't have taken it down - because it was a flaw in their process after all. Never mind, you can all fill me in with the details - such is life. Midwives help people out. 09/15/08 04:06 PM BCC BookieMonster	Chris! That's awful. Sigh.......... I hate stuff like that. At my age, I've learned to pick my battles and that's one I wouldn't take my time to fight. I finished this book last week and loved it. There were a few parts when I wished Towner would get on with it already but overall it moved along nicely. Had some trouble following characters since they seemed to jump around so much. Eva, Emma & May were all jumbled up in my head for awhile but soon straightened out and all was well. I couldn't walk upright for 10 days after my hysterectomy. I, literally, was aching for that poor woman. Shock therapy has made a comeback but it's not nearly what it used to be. I wish the term held less horrific connotations. Actually, much of the shock is brought on by chemical injection. Sometimes those silly neurons need a good boot in the butt to get them working correctly. Electricity, used correctly, will tie the gaps together not fry them.
