Jackie, I've been on Library Thing for a long time now, about a year I think. I haven't reviewed any of the books in my library,(time just gets away
from me) but have rated them. I've started using it as my backup book journal. It's fantastic for all the bibliographic info and you can even choose
your own cover. Only 1 thing missing. It doesn't allow you to mark what date you read the book.

Meg, et al, guess what--you CAN mark Date Read on Library Thing. You can edit the fields that show in your library from your library page. There's an edit
thingy across the top I love it! I'd like to have a date added to the library too so I can show them in chron order.
Currently reading: the bird watching in Africa thingy, LOL, and The Glass Palace by Amitav Ghosh
Just finished: Ritual, by Mo Hayder, The Lace Reader, The Crow Eaters by Bapsi Sidhwa, |

Sounds of me smacking myself on head: Duh...there IS a field on Library Thing that shows the "entry date"--I hadn't noticed it before because it
wasn't near the other dates, it's near the cataloging info. The date seems to have been put in automatically when I cataloged. YAY I love logical
systems.

Just catching up on some magazine reading, and saw this on the Vanity Fair books page from September. Don't know if it's the breathy VF writing style
or the book is that good, but it sounds intriguing:
Already a blazing literary sensation internationally, Swedish journalist Stieg Larsson's dark-hearted thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Knopf) is now poised to burn up best-seller lists in America. The spark of Larsson's debut novel -- the first in a trilogy he completed before his untimely death, in 2004 -- is the 40-year-old mystery of a teenage girl's disappearance from her sinisterly wealthy family's private island. The fire comes from an unlikely pairing of amateur sleuths: middle-aged, crime-novel aficionado Mikael Blomkvist, a recently disgraced financial investigative reporter found guilty of libeling an influential Swedish family, and Lisbeth Salander, a tattooed, antisocial, ferociously brilliant 24-year-old, with a photographic memory and a disturbing history of victimization, making her the perfect foil for the crusading, socially conscious Blomkvist. To the new breed of Watson and Holmes, skoal!

megzer wrote: I've never been on Library Thing, but I have book lists and reviews on both Shelfari and GoodReads. I began with Shelfari because I wanted an online place to put my lifetime reading list, since I'd lost all or part of my computer database a couple times. I store valued photos online as well. Anyway, while I like the people and organization of Shelfari, it loads very slowly. I'm getting impatient in my old age, so I transferred many of my titles and reviews over to GoodReads, where navigating is quicker. I've met fellow readers from around the world i both places.

Kathy, I've had The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on my library request list for awhile. I like Henning Mankell a lot and am hoping this one is as good.

My own copy of Dragon Tattoo should arrive today! I've also just started an ARC titled Forced Out by Stephen Frey and the other one I have to read is
Gonzalez and Daughter Trucking Company for my face group. That last one is about a one-day read. Very easy read but I've just begun (both!) so I don't
really have a fix on either.

I hope you enjoy Dragon Tattoo - I read it a while ago, good story. I was reading somewhere that the second book in the millenium series by Larsson is due for
release early 2009, there are 3 books all up - and then that is all we'll get from this writer - who died unexpectedly and quite young.

Yup, he died because he was home to receive the violet letter from death.

So I should live a long time. I'd never accept a violet letter.

I posted a link earlier to a video of a little 5 year old girl dribbling a basketball so skillfully,
she even boggled the pro's. I titled it "Nothing to do with books", so I'm wondering if it had to be deleted. I don't see it and I'm
pretty sure this is the thread I posted it in and just want to make sure I haven't goofed, and if I did, how I did so I don't do it again. The little
girl's name is Milan Simon Tuttle if you want to try to find the article/video to see her amazing skills!

It's that time again... Anyone with book suggestions for a 14-yo freshman boy in high school. He is just a bit old for kid lit and young for adult sci fi
stuff.
