Perhaps we are ready to chat about Secret History. I am glad so many people are enjoying it. Someone can tell me why I'm not!
dlee - I'd like to give it a try.
How many pages have you read?
When I was reading the first 20, 30, 40 .. pages, I honestly started to ask myself, "Is it only me having a hard time to continue reading? And - what is supposed to be so great about this story?" - and then, whoome, around page 100 or so the big turn happened (for me). I don't want to spoil, but if this works as an encouragement, I'm happy to say that from this moment on I was absolutely h o o k e d .
Another question, do you read classics from time to time?
The German translation that I was reading was written in a language comparable to really high-quality classic writing - at times, I wondered how Donna Tartt managed to write so well.
And finally - do old languages (Latin, Greek) fascinate you? Are you interested in their mythology?
Honestly, I doubt that you will feel somehow connected to the major characters if you find it hard to understand people who love the old myths, and old languages.
I hope I could have helped you a bit ... ?

You kept on reading up to page 341 - despite of not
enjoying the book or the characters. You get my respect for that. I would have given up, probably.

I finished the book more than a week ago, but I still
catch myself daydreaming about some specific scenes out of the book even in these days ...
