I have to give it a 2 even though I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I can think of. It did make me think, and chuckle, and I had fun with the ending.

yes, a 2 from me as well.
Could only recommend to a die-hard Saramago fan and rarely come across any of those - however I'm glad I read it. Midwives help people out.

A 2 from me, too. I did chuckle a lot but I wish he'd fleshed it out a bit more. I can't imagine who I would recommend it to, however, since it was
soooo hard to read.

I give it a 1.5 - ran out of patience with it by the end.

I feel a little guilty rating this since I didn't finish. .5 I didn't want to throw it across the room, I liked the premise but found it too difficult
to actually read.

Deb, this is a no-guilt zone. One of the few, which makes it all the more precious.

I'm going to say a 1. I would rate the first half a 2 due to all the thought provoking ideas and the second half a 0.5, didn't like the cellist story.
