I'm not going to see Pelham (doesn't fit my narrow guidelines, LOL) but I did see previews for it at the theater and I was surprised at how nasty John
Travolta looked. I mean this in a good way, he really looks like a nasty, evil character. I didn't realize who it was at first.

RE: A Clockwork Orange. I had to see it as a college assignment, and -- like Jill -- I felt violated by the violence.
That movie has stuck with me through the years, though; every now and then I think of some American societal thing, and think of how predictive that movie/book
was. It makes me want to go and read the book now, years later. I agree with the folks who said they can handle violence better in writing than in visual form.
Watched the movie Doubt this weekend with Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Thomas. Well-done movie, all in shades of gray, leaving much doubt in many forms. And Meryl and Phillip were great foils for each other, as well as great actors in meaty roles.

I tried to watch Doubt this weekend but I was outvoted and we watched The Day the Earth Stood Still. It wasn't bad, a little boring actually. I'll get
to Doubt one of these days.

P/bee did you watch the original Day the Earth Stood Still or the remake? The original is pretty good; the remake is awful.

No, I have never seen the orginal- I'll put that on my list.
We also saw Marley and Me. I didn't think it was that good. They had just such a perfect little life, every job he wanted he got, every house he wanted, perfect wife, perfect kids. I wanted a lot more dog scenes. The ending was touching, of course and my daughter and I shed many tears. |

We saw UP last night, very good movie- really more adult than kid but not in a bad way. I'm sure my grandson did not understand the husband/wife
relationship at the beginning at all but it wasn't disturbing to him. The dogs were scary but also very funny, especially Doug. We all love Doug.

Watched "Lost in Austen" on DVD last night. About a young woman who enters the world of P & P from her modern day flat. My dd and I liked it but
I think you have to be a P & P fan to get the movie.

I hadn't heard of that one Olle, I'll have to look into it. Kind of like the Wizard of Oz: open the door and you're in Oz or Austen-land

Just reactivated Netflix and ordered Lost in Austen. I saw some clips and it looked quite good and like light fun.
Jodi, are you sure your contacts aren't smudged? Everything has been dark lately. You DO need some sunshine girl--oh wait that's it. Watch the Sunshine Boys! A little Neil Simon should do it.

Jodi- I can see how you might think it is a little dark with the Muntz character and the dogs but I think the over all message was positive- "GO FOR
IT!"

Watched "The Family that Preys" on DVD. Sounds like a horror movie, doesn't it? It's not. Stars Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates. They're
moms with adult children and we see into all of their lives. It's a movie about family, friendship, love and pain. Worth a viewing.

Olle and Jill,
I watched 'Lost In Austen' earlier this year and really loved it. I think you will too, provided you know the P and P story.

Guess what, I have it to watch maybe tonight. I'm excited to see it--I've seen two versions of P&P with the Colin Firth film my favorite. Ah Mr.
Darcy.

Watched Lost in Austen late last night during the thunder boomer storm that forced me to flee the chat room. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. what a delightful film. I
couldn't believe my eyes when Mrs Bennett was credited to someone other than Emma Thompson. I was SO sure it was her throughout. The twisted plot was so
refreshingly new yet familiar; loved the surprises. THANK YOU Olle and Jane for suggesting it.

At first I thought the person playing Mrs Bennett was Emma but eventually I realized she wasn't. Don't remember her real name but she played a doctor
on the TV show ER. She married Mark Green and left after he died.
Glad you liked it, it was a fun way to spend a couple of hours. |

Alex Kingston, according to IMDB.com. Also according to them it is a UK TV miniseries... Is that right?
