I'm back to work next week so of course I went to the libary and replaced my depleted library stack with 8 more - will I have time to
read them? No, I won't and I know I won't but that didn't stop me. It's sheer greed and what will I do if the reserves come in!
Got a Stuart McBride mystery, Two Caravans that Chris, I think, nominated, a few other mysteries etc etc. Barb

This is just sick, I know, but I ordered 12 books from Amazon this month and a number I can't even imagine from the library. I'm just waiting for the
first of February (payday!) to order all the ones we're going to be reading... plus all the ones from the nominations thread that I want to read anyway!

Karen, you might win the prize.
I just found out that all of my reserves came in at once (except the prepublication ones) the Val McDermid and two MC Beatons. Plus I have the ARC, a couple of new authors, Louise's book, Flying Crows and a few others in the other room. Why can't I read as fast as Jodi? sigh

Here's my take on buying books and having a large TBR list..........
I have friends who think nothing of paying $500. for one of those Coach purses (sorry but I think they are hideous) and yet scoff at paying $20.00 for a book! I buy my books on sale, on clearance, etc and after I have read them all I am enriched, I can share with friends etc. What can you do with a Coach purse? Does it expand your mind? So I never feel guilty about by book obsession. We saw Inheart yesterday, it was ok but there is a scene in the movie that I think we could all share in, the "bad guys" destroy one of the characters library and she is LIVID! Hey, who can blame her? |

Deb/Bee -- love the quote in your signature line! And I, too, think paying $500 for a purse is obscene. I have a friend who does that; in fact, when we were
all in Vegas last summer she bought a... hmm, can't remember the name now ... but it was $800! How ridiculous is that?!
And most of my books come from either Amazon or Costco so they're deeply discounted.

I wrote a post here that well, isn't here! What's going on?
I said that Karen wins the sick-book-buyer prize although in other words. You buy even more than I do and that's saying something!

I have a lovely Coach purse (plain black leather). It' s beeyootiful and I use it to carry all my stuff (and whatever book I'm reading). However,
I've had it for 10 years and it was a gift!

I have one, too, Jodi -- plain black leather but I paid less than $100 for it on clearance at the outlet store.
I may win that prize for *this* month, Betsy, but probably not every month. I don't usually get quite this carried away... but I've been having so much fun!

Okay, Karen, I have to admit to spending quite a bit on purses, although not quite that much. Before I buy it though, I shop and shop for the perfect one and
have to love it. Then I keep it and love it for years.
As for books, if I can get it at the library, I will, especially a book that I might not like all that much. I do spend money on books but not often because we have a pretty extensive library system and it is pretty easy to get what you want. Also, I get so mad when I spend $20 for a book and then dislike it. I feel betrayed by the author and the publishers. Weird, I know. Now having said all this, before these difficult economic times, I thought nothing of spending oodles of money on books for my kids, especially at Christmas. I wanted them to love their books and feel ownership of them and feel like they are worth spending money on, and I think this has worked. They are both big readers and love their books, even the dd feels that entitles to her fold, spindle and mutilate them. Also, when they were younger, we often went to the bookstore in the evening as a family outing or social event, kind of like us adult and traveling bb'ers. :) Sandra |

Nope, I make (sew) most of my handbags these days. I can have a highly individual bag and plenty more like it. No "cache" but all mine. And cheap!

Sandra, I actually understand what you're saying very well. I guess I just haven't been bitten by the purse bug, despite my friend and my daughter
trying to lure me there. And, honestly, I don't know why I buy so many of my books since, at my age, I'm certainly not going to re-read many of them --
if any! I get a lot from the library and then buy a lot more and I don't even know why I choose to buy the ones I do. Weird, I know.

First, before we get noodled, I am off to the library today to pick up Metzger's Dog, Rabbit Run (I've never read Updike and figure this is as good a
time as any), Carter Beats the Devil by Gould (for f2f group) and Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter by Blaize Clement (recommended by a friend). Next up, though,
is The Cellist of Sarajevo.
Betsy, if we were all as talented and creative as you are, wouldn't life be beautiful? :) I have made a couple of handbags, felting them, but they don't last long because I don't like it when they start to ball up and get "fuzzy." Also, when felting, it is hard to get the straps just to where I want them, usually takes a couple of tries. Karen, I recently found an interesting bookswap site. Maybe you can swap out the books, if it is worth the time. I think our swap kind of fell apart, didn't it? Maybe with the economy being what it is, we should restart. :) Also, Karen, the purse bug often goes hand-in-hand with the shoe bug, so it is a good one to avoid if you can. The good thing about so many purses/shoes is that it takes a loooong time to wear one out. I am constantly amazed at how quickly the kids go through shoes but they wear the same pair day after day after day. And the 14-yo ds's shoes are a mess because he wears them for ultimate frisbee in the park and habitat restoration at the lake, etc. Ick! And he still wears them for everyday life. Sandra, who is hoping to take the ds school shoe shopping today.

And speaking of the library... I want to know why Jill already received her library reserve of the new Val McDermid and my library still has the book "on
order"!

another reason I don't spend a lot on purses........my delightful Boxer, Baby, oh, she is such a bad dog! She has chewed many shoes and purses and other
things! I still love her anyway. I did get her a collar that says, "I do bad things."
