By the way, I purchased a Tracy Chevalier book, Burning Bright (with the UK cover for some reason). I liked Lady and the Unicorn and Girl with a Pearl Earring
so I thought I'd enjoy this one too.

We have guests who love books so we hit Bookman's yesterday (UBS). Big mistake but I just *happened to have a large store credit burning a hole in my
pocket, so.... I bought a wonderful book on papermaking, Jeffery (sic) Deaver's The Sleeping Doll, Deborah Crombie's All Shall Be Well, Nelson
Demille's Night Fall and Linda Fairstein's Bad Blood. I also gave them a copy of Still Life and in exchange, they gave me Tom Perotta's The
Abstinence Teacher and Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo. Hoo boy!! No danger here of running low on reading material! AND I got my copy of The Colour yesterday
from the library!! Oh the pressure!! I'm halfway thru an ARC Trust No One by Greg Hurwitz (great page-turner!).

wasiting to be picked up at last. I've been first on the waiting list since I reserved it last year in time to read it with you guys. How long has that
been?

Wow Barb--it's going to have to be anticlimactic now, right? Oh well, lower all expectations and enjoy Salem.
My TBR is toppling and I've had to pass up the last few reserves that came in; too much pressure.

I'm just finishing up Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, which is partly for a discussion on GoodReads, and partly in preparation for a trip to Peru
we're taking March 21st. I am still thinking about what to take along on the trip - there will be lots of airplane time! Maybe Enchantress of Florence,
though I'd really like some paperback I can leave behind. We'll see.

library run:
Maus I (I read this years ago, checked it out for my teen son to read, he may be intrigued enough by it to read more of them, we'll see) Gilead (face group) Disquiet by Julia Leigh The Little Princesses non-fiction by Marion Crawford (this book was mentioned in another book I read, something about how scandelous it was when it came out, so I'm looking for why it would be so) Out Stealing Horses by per Petterson The Unpossessed City by Jon Fasman (pretty sure I saw this title in a Shelf Awareness email which was a list of books that had been up for an award for YA lit. Well, it was up for some award, that much I recall.) |

Olle, I will be interested in how your ds likes Maus. Our English classes include it in the freshman reading now and then. The kids don't seem crazy about
it but I wonder if it is because it is required.

Is this the Maus that is a graphic novel about mice (personified) surviving the Holocaust? Since the fiance's family owns a comic book store I have seen it
often and always mean to read it someday, looks interesting.

lololol Dog woke me up way toooooo early. Here's the list. You'll see yourselves (yoursHelves) here: Six Seconds by Rick Mofina The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett Runner-Jane Whitefield Novel by Thomas Perry Colleges that Change Lives by Loren Pope Oh, Johnny by Jim Lehrer (I've never Loved one of his books but this is set during WWII and I, for some unknown reason, I like reading about the time period) The Private Patient by PD James We Have Always Lived in the Castle--a melodrama in 3 acts. Adapted from the novel by SHirley Jackson The Girl With the DRagon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher by Kate Summerscale Liberation Movements by Olen Steinhauer Mothers Who Think-Tales of real-life parenthood edited by C Peri and K Moses Garden View by Mary Freeman (mystery) A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin It's too much to have deadlines for, even for me. Wait, there's one more----
...I never saw another butterfly... Children's Drawings and Poems from Terezin Concentration Camp, 1942-1944 Put this one in a separate post in order to give more info: http://www.hmh.org/minisite/butterfly/index.html The Butterfly Project : 1,500,000 children died in the Holocaust. In an effort to remember them, Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies. The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath-taking exhibition, currently scheduled for Spring 2012, for all to remember. Our middle school, in 8th grade, does a Holocaust program which sticks with the kids. I saw this project on a listserv for Girl Scout leaders and am trying to think of a way to have a butterfly making project at a community event. Not sure if it will come off, we'll see. But there's the link because some of you may want to make butterflies, too. By yourself, with family, friends, some other group you're in, etc. |

Olle, way back in the early 90s I read the book I Never Saw Another Butterfly, and then the community theater group I worked in did it as a play for
middler schoolers. I remember seeing the original artwork at the holocaust museum in Washington DC, and being moved to tears.
