I am only taking two classes this quarter, so hopefully, I will have plenty of reading time.
I can't imagine that I will ever have finished all the books in this house. That would be a feat.

I have Stones Fall and am going today to pick-up Hums in B flat. I was thinking about riding my bike to the library, but I won't be able to bring home as
many books, so I guess I will drive.

Barb, what you said about the new J Hamilton jibes with the review I read. So even if it's short I may not read it after all. Lots of other things to spend
time with.

Have about 5 books due back next weekend - can't read them in time so what to leave out? I'm spending valuable reading time dithering over what to read
- this is ridiculous!
Picked up Out Stealing Horses - Per Petterson the Yellow-lighted Bookshop - Lewis Buzbee - it has the most attractive and inviting cover i've seen for long while, it makes me want to read it. Midnight Fugue - Reginald Hill - it's the latest Daziel and Pascoe and I'm happy inside just knowing I have it here :) Barb

My Amazon order came in today.... you just can't imagine how thrilled I was when I heard the doorbell ring and knew it was the mailman -- oops, sorry --
the letter carrier. ;)
A High Wind in Jamaica (actually received earlier this week) The Earth Hums in B Flat (next up in August) The Yellow Lighted Bookshop (also on our list) uh, um,... the physick book of deliverance dane.. which I'm going to read with Betsy's face group -- yeah, that's right the whereabouts of eneas mcnulty because we *almost* chose it the heretic's daughter because we almost chose that, too, didn't we? and, um, thus was adonis murdered because i already read the other one. So, I didn't do too badly did I? *smirk* Don't even answer. I know I totally gave up everything but I'm so frickin' *HAPPY* to have new books that I don't even care!

Snicker snort--I totally get it. My desk is piled with books now too--they do not belong in the office but books kind of do what they want in my house. Just
home from the library:
Genesis, by Bernard Beckett--a strange little SciFi book I read about and was intrigued by. A Beautiful Place to Die, Malla Nunn, from Jodi's blurb reviews. WHY WHY WHY are publishers now using small black type on darkish colored paper for their cover fold-over blurbs? You know the part that gives the description of the book. On Genesis it's a dark red-orange paper with black type I can barely read. Arrrgh. You'd think Houghton-Mifflin would know better.

Hey, my sister called to say the new Diana Gabaldon is on order at her library. She's #1 in the hold queue. Thought some here would want to know.
I can't say that I want to read this book as I remember being very tired of the series, although I can't recall my exact objection.... lol |

Good Karen, you read my face group book and tell me allllll about it, okay? I don't think I'll be able to get to it but since I don't think
I'll make that meeting, the point is moot in any case. I'm not thrilled about it and would rather read Angel's Game that came yesterday in any
case. Harumph.
I also got my mystery of the month: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn which sounds most intriguing! Both this book and Angel's Game (this you all knew already) have gorgeous covers! I'm not immune to great cover art apparently although I've previously written here that it doesn't really affect my book choices with the notable exception of those horrid bubblegum pink ones on the so-called Chick Lit books! Yuck! I also have an ARC of The Ignorance of Blood by Robert Wilson. Wilson is also the author of A Small Death in Lisbon, one of my favorite books.

Barb, I started to say that it fell early in the series but I checked and it's fairly late in it. I was mistaken because the early one, Black Echo, has
that same word in it (Echo Park). However, if it's there and if you feel like reading it, why not? Go for it!

And speaking of Best of lists... The grandson and I went to B&N last night where he played with an elaborate Thomas the Train set and I picked up three
books that are always mentioned as the Best of childhood but that I've never read:
Charlotte's Web Little House on the Prairie Anne of Green Gables (Don't ask me how I justified this purchase. I think I had some sort of argument in mind last night when we were there that is totally gone now.)

Put me down as never reading Little House. It just never intrigued me enough to pick it up and read it. Love the other two though.

Um you need to bone up so you can read them to grandson? You need them for online quizzes? No that won't work. Make it the grandson, yeah that's it.

I think that's where I was last night, Jill, but now they seem like such *girl* books!
Betsy, I think when other kids were reading the Little House books I was engrossed in a similar series about a girl named Caddie Woodlawn, if I remember correctly. But it won't hurt me to try Little House now. Edited to change Cassie Woodlawn to Caddie. Because I looked it up.

I loved Anne, also. Did any of you feel like her (LM Montgomery) story got weak in last couple of books? I survived summer camp by reading about Anne in my top
bunk.

Well, you all have decided me -- Anne is next. Finished Charlotte today and I can definitely see that if I'd read it as a 9 or 10 year old, I'd have
cried my way through the last 20 pages or so. At the ripe old age of 54 I already know the life span of spiders... But it's a good book.
The copy I bought had a big read sticker sort of thing saying Now a Major Motion Picture or something similar. Is that new? Should I take that question to the other thread? BTW -- I absolutely *adore* the way so many of our conversations bleed over into other things... Books and food and drinks and books and movies and books and life and TV and books and food again. Ain't it grand!?!
