Hmm. This thread has been up for hours. 5 views and 0 replies. Want me to go first? O.K. I will.
A good solid 4 because the writing was excellent. And because there are lots of people I could recommend this to (and many I already have) with the caveat that it's an O book so, of course, everything ends badly. Although I wanted a different ending -- and there was certainly room for one -- I still really loved the journey to this particular heartbreak. And I don't even like dogs!

Yep, we're definitely going to use all the numbers! I'm somewhere between 0 and 1. The more I think about the book, the more it annoys me. I got Hamlet
from Netflix - now to see how the master does it.

I kind of feel a rating of zero is unfair because it was my personal reaction that stopped me during part 3, rather than something really wrong with the book.
However, now that I've found out about the last two parts, I'm glad I stopped LOL. so...
rating = 1 I'm not an angst addict

Make mine a solid 3, or even 3.5. I liked it and have recommended it to several people and my dd rec it to me. The heck with O! I didn't like ALL of it and
so I can't go higher.

I am going to rate it a 1. I hate tragedies, I found it difficult to finish, and there were many things about the book that really annoyed me.

I'm giving this 0.5 because I lost interest during part 3, so skipped to the last 3 pages. Don't think that really counts as a proper finish!

Somewhere between 1 and 2 - I did like the writing and the way he used language but there was much more I didn't like. Hated the ending or at least the way
he left a big mess with no glimmers of hope and didn't like the way he used supernatural events to move the plot on. Can't think of anyone I would
recommend this to.

I'm introducing a new number ... 2-
Like Barb, I liked most of the writing though I felt a good editor was needed. But as the impending tragedy closed in, I liked the characters and situations less and less, and I almost didn't feel engaged enough to finish.

I'm going to give the book a solid 3.75. While not the best book I've read I have recommended it to others. The writing was superb, imho, and I truly
cared about the characters...not cared in the way that I liked them all... but was engaged in their "characterizations". The ghost parts didn't
bother me at all... I was struck by how special/exceptional Edgar was, (not your "normal" 14 yr. old guy), and from his standpoint it fit!

My rating is 1.75. I liked the writing but didn't like the supernatural or the ending. It was too depressing for me and I wouldn't recommend it to
anyone.

Even though I swore I'd stop grading anyone or anything when I retired from teaching, I'll cast a minority vote of 4.5. I was impressed, entertained
and moved.

Agree with Sherry. Entertained is the key word for me. And yes, I have recommended it to others.
I have a few quibbles but not enough to have stopped my enjoyment. 3.5 Pam

I finished! Wish I could of had the time to read it along with everyone, lots to discuss. I really liked it and am going with a 3.75. I also am not familiar
with Hamlet (like I should) so didn't go into it with any preconceived notions.

Whoo-hoo! So Happy to see some higher scores. We will definitely off-set those who gave it a 0 to 1.5.
But, this book has *definitely* run the gamut of numbers.
