Well, Betsy, I see now that you have ordered your copy of Angel's Game. Jill sent me an ARC and I plan (plan!) to be finished by the end of the weekend.
Would anyone like to have it? I'd be very happy to pass it on to a good home.
Sandra, I just started to keep a knitting journal in 2005. Not too long after I began to knit. I put the project name, book title the pattern came from, wool I used and how much, needle size and gage. I also put in any pattern changes or fit problems. I have a few belly bands in there and some scraps with notes about yarns and substitution possibilities. I bought Knitter's Handbook, Montse Stanley. It is an old old one from Reader's Digest, I needed one place to find techniques instead of trying to remember which pattern book I saw something in. I have quite a lot of books, so it is impossible to remember where I saw a technique. On my wish list is Knitting Glossary DVD from Schoolhousepress.com. It is brilliant.

Ok, Mary, what is a belly band? I just started keeping a knitting journal this year and I also try and paste or insert a picture of the finished product too.
My usual reference was Vogue Knitting but I now find most of my questions answered on the internet.
Oh, and I am next up at the library for Angel's Game. Yippee! Sandra |

The belly band is the paper wrapper that is around the yarn. It has info about yardage and gage. I only keep ones from unusual yarn.
I need to do some thinking about the noms. I want to read some good books this summer.

So I've been reading, reading, reading because the kids have been home, also reading. I read a couple of Peter May books last week and a Qiu Xiaolong book,
all mysteries with Chinese police detectives set in Shanghai or Beijing. I am starting to get confused and their plots are starting to overlap. :) I just
started my 2nd Qiu Xiaolong book and they are talking about a ship carrying hundreds of illegal Chinese immigrants and my head started to swim because this was
also in one of the last Peter May books I read. AND they introduced a young American woman to partner up with the Chinese policeman and we know there will
something romantic between them, don't we? Maybe these two authors need to partner up themselves because I am starting to confuse their characters and
their plots; they could do some kind of Preston/Child thing, huh?

I just saw on Shelf Awareness that Margaret Atwood has a new book coming in Sept, The Year of the Flood, once again exploring futuristic topics and survival of
a few in a changed landscape. Sounds like fans of Oryx and Crake would like this one too.

Just checking in amidst chaos. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this... there is an ad on Shelf Awareness for a new book by Louise Penney, you can
request an ARC too. Check it out!

Hi ya Courtney. I was of two minds about clicking for the ARC since I want to support Louise and know I would buy it anyway. But I lost control and clicked.
Sigh.
Yesterday, when I posted the results for the winners, I placed an order with Amazon, two-day shipping on my prepay plan. Now, the books are due to arrive TODAY. Not only does that amaze me, but I'm looking forward to it as though I was starving for something to read. I won't even get to most of them for months, yet I'm Pavlovian about that box arriving. (Except for Cozy Writer--that takes a few days longer)

Jill, think of it this way...if you get an arc you could send it overseas to Chris, Barb, Jane, Meg, etc. :) If I get one I'll read it and be glad to mail
it along to someone.
Thanks Courtney, I don't open their email every day so would have missed it. I've been on an email free week, not sure why, it wasn't conscious, just haven't felt like doing anything. Hey, just opened my email, saw I had a bajillion to go through. Sorted and sifted and saw an invite to lunch today. Just in time. That's a nice reward! |

Stopped by Borders on my way home from work the other night to get a birthday present for someone and walked out with 8-10 books for $30 .... I was thrilled!
They were having dollar day sales, and everything I purchased was $4 or less.

Oh dear, should I ask? What did you get? (knowing you'll be enabling a bunch of us LOL)
I'll trade knowledge--in my Amazon package, THE STONE RAFT by Saramago; THE NINE by Toobin; and THE EARTH HUMS IN B FLAT by Strachan. Could the book be as good as the title????

What a nice package Jill. Even when I know what is coming it's fun to open the box and see them in real life. :)
Kathy, what fun!

Well, most of it was gift material (started my Christmas shopping!), so that made me feel even better! The only indulgences for me were a Connelly crime
stories collection that I didn't have and a blank journal.

Partly they were echoing with emptiness last night because Yuku was down. I couldn't get to any Yuku site but I could get to any other site in the world so
it must have been them, not me.

I'm not an Oprah fan but somehow I came across her summer reading list and found some interesting recommendations in 25 books you can't put down.
Check it out. Also there was a bk review in today's Herald that attracted me. The review at the Herald is from the Washington Post. http://www.oprah.com/article/oprahsbookclub/readinglists/pkgsummerreading/200907-omag-summer-reading-list http://www.miamiherald.com/entertainment/story/1119313.html "Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back" Fortune cookie saying Rema |
