Ooh, thanks Rema. The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane is going on my, uh, wish list -- right now.

That's the book that my face grp choose last night out of a selection of three. I wish I could remember the others but I can't, darn it.

They chose the Deliverance Dane book, Betsy? I don't know why, but I'm surprised. I guess since it's brand new and only in hardcover and probably
tough to get at the library.
But... since they have, for some reason it's given me extra encouragement to add it to my Amazon cart rather than let it languish in the wish list. See! It is a sickness. I'll even use Betsy's face group to enable me!

When I bought Angel's Game I also bought The Book Thief, my daughter read The Book Thief while I am reading Angel's and guess what? She loved it! No
surprise there but now I am also looking forward to it, so thanks to everyone for the recommendation.

Ooo you're in for a double-barrel treat then. But you know what can happen when you read two really good books in a row? Either one suffers by comparison
or it takes weeks to find anything that will come up to their level. So maybe you should read something really different in between so you love both? LOL A
reader's dilemma

Well, I've read 40 of the 100 so I'm proud of myself, there are some that I will never read on that list, though. Thanks for posting.

That list seems broader than most such lists somehow, didn't you think?

I'd agree, seeing Raymond Chandler on there was interesting. I read that in college- my professor thought he was the best of his genre.

I have been rearranging some things and I found a book, Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann. It turns out my mom the mystery fan had left here on one of her
visits. It sounds intriguing, a mystery where a flock of sheep are the detectives and they are trying to figure out who killed their shepherd. I think I'll
give it a try, any of you mystery readers heard of it?

Bee, I've never heard of that one. Let us know how it is.
Thanks for the lists Rema, maybe we could use one as our genre list next time we nom? |

That Newsweek list was a bit different, and interesting. I'm realizing that I skipped a lot of classic kid's lit though I was gobbling books feverishly
from early on. I'm not quite sure why--maybe i just tended to avoid the 'should reads' until I realized classics are just that for a darn good
reason usually.

I like that Newsweek list better than most of the other lists I've seen. It's a list of books people actually like and enjoy, rather than
"shoulds".

I did the same thing, Jill and seldom read kid lit until adulthood when I appreciated them a lot more than when I was young. I have never cared for being told
what to do (or read)! I like reading them now though! I read romantic historical fiction when I was young and loved books like Green Dolphin Street and Rebecca
etc so it wasn't a total loss of time. I wish I could remember more titles of books I read then but I can't.

Well put, Jodi -- -that's exactly what it seemed like to me, too.
What did you think of the list of 50 books labeled What to Read Now. And Why. Some titles I've liked there, too, as well as some I've always meant to try. There is nothing on this earth, however, that will *ever* convince me to read Faulkner again. That might be a good one to nom and/or vote from.

Funny Bets, those were two of the books I loved then too, along with A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and the Merlin series..Crystal Cave --Mary Stewart? Shirley
Jackson books. I don't quite remember what came between the Honey Bunch, Nancy Drew, Dana Girls series and those other books. Must have been some
transitional stuff. Oh wait, Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, etc but I was also reading Aunt Ella's mysteries. Hmmm. Confusing.
karen, I take it as a badge of honor that I really liked Absalom!Absalom! but wouldn't recommend it unless you can close your eyes, ride the roller coaster and read at the same time.
