That is really frightening, Sherry!! When I lived in hurricane country, we kept batteries and lots and lots of water on hand as well as canned food that could
be heated on our campstove or barbecue and then when we moved to earthquake country, we added hiking boots under the bed to that list. Those boots were for
walking over broken glass etc. Fortunately we had those items for Hurricane Bob in '91 and never used them for quakes. We live in an area with few natural
disasters that could come our way (knock on wood!) but if I lived where you do, I believe that my basement would have the equivalent "kit" for
tornados etc and that would include cots and blankets for safety during the nighttime hours. I'd be down there anytime I believed that life was about to
get scary and complicated. Might as well be comfortable there, right?
Jodi, tell me it isn't still raining....

Betsy- the advice we are given here in earthquake country is to have all those things you say but also to have an emergency kit in our cars because very seldom
are we far from our cars, even at home. Although. I guess in a hurricane the car could be blown away..........

I was sad to hear Farrah lost her battle, very tragic. And now my daughter tells me that Micheal Jackson has died, kind of like the day the music died.........

oh my gosh. I was just at a concert where they played Billie Jean, I have been singing it for two days. He had a sad life.
On a brighter note, congrats Jenn. You must feel great! aflack aflack quack quack! I was near a tornado touchdown once. I am so afraid of them now. The violence is impossible to imagine.

Gotta give Jackson credit for being a great entertainer, whatever else was wrong with his life. He had such a huge impact. I have to admit that my first
thought was that it was suicide because he couldn't face not being up to his comeback. I hope that wasn't the case.

I don't think it was suicide. I think he was really hoping to redeem himself with this show. I think it is very sad to hear people say negatives about
Micheal right now. Personally, I think he had a tragic life and I felt sorry for him. I think his father and the media had a lot to do with how odd he became.
I think he was a rare artist and the world has lost something.

One of the dd's friends doesn't know what the big deal is about regarding Michael Jackson. Sad, isn't it?
On a happier note, the almost-15-year-old ds just told me, "I have a book and a graham crackers. I'm in paradise." I asked, "Really? Paradise? With a book and graham crackers?" His reply was, "Yes, at this moment..." I need to be more like him. Sandra |

Quack quack congratulations to Jenn (Did I mention it's raining so much that my dad saw a duck walking up the road near his house? It's not even near
the water).
Books and graham crackers... sounds pretty good to me!!

Sandra- sounds like your son has a great attitude. I think that younger people only know Micheal because of his last few years in the media (which got pretty
odd), they didn't grow up with him like we did. I mean, I feel like I really grew up with him. Reading Tiger Beat to find out about his daily life, his
first date, etc.
Jill- I always thought my mad mom made that saying up, I never heard anyone else say it.
Looking forward to a quiet weekend, all the kids will be gone for different events, aahhh, peace and quiet. |

Feeling kinda sad today because of MJ's death - he was the same age as me, so I grew up with his music. And whatever happened to the man, his music is
amazing and that's what will live on. Thankfully.

It is sad - one of the icons of our time. He was a strange man and looked very odd the last few years but his music was just amazing and had such a profound
influence - hopefully that will be what lives on.
And Farrah Fawcett too - what a day! Barb

Tom, hope they give out free graham crackers!
Does anyone wonder if the Fawcett/Ryan family is well (for lack of a better word) relieved that they can now mourn in peace? There was a torrential thunderstorm last night. About an hour later, the sky cleared and turned reddish. I swear (no joke) that for a second I didn't know why. I hadn't seen a sunset in so long I'd forgotten what it looked like.

Jodi, on the chance that putting up the beach picture drew the cursed rain, I've switched back so maybe it will rain books instead. The timing was too
coincidental. Come on, bring out the sun.

LOL. I was thinking earlier that the beach picture was probably the closest I was going to get to an actual beach.
