07/07/09 04:08 PM BCC ZEN Bookie MASTER	The Echo isn't my favorite of Minette Walters books and Fox Evil is definitely my least favorite, but I can join Jill's recommendation of The Shape of Snakes -- still my favorite of hers. The Ice House was also good but much lighter and in a different vein than her others. Jodi, good for you for casting aside Palace Council. For whatever reason I stuck it out and read the whole thing and I should have done as you did. I so enjoyed his first book but methinks he is a one book wonder. How did this thread become What I'm Reading now? I could have sworn I was in the Chat thread... Anyway, we bought a new kitchen sink last night just because I hate my old one and a new leather chair for my 'library' downstairs so that I can escape the noise of sporting events that are watched upstairs. Hubby is in deep, deep do-do with me and is trying to make it up. He should keep trying, don't you think? It's stainless steel, Betsy; not the top of the line variety but one side is actually large enough for the 9 x 13 baking dish to lay flat and soak if need be and that's all I wanted. The one it replaces is fiberglass -- it dings and scratches and gets nasty looking way too easy. When we redid the kitchen right after buying the house it was only a few months old and it felt positively frivolous to replace it, but I've always hated it. And that kitchen remodel was 8 1/2 years ago now so I guess I've put up with it long enough. 07/07/09 07:56 PM	I am so relieved. We (I) have been approved for up to 12 hours a week of in-home respite care for my husband. We were even able to chose the person to do it! She is someone my husband already knows and is comfortable with. This is through the VA. You can't imagine what a relief this will be, well, maybe you can. There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling. Mirabel Osler

I also know that the VA can be very tough to deal with depending on what part of the country one lives in--with my area being the worst offender in the country.

You would think that all veterans would have the same access but apparently not. I feel fortunate for the care my husband has been getting. You are right, the VA can be a pain and it shouldn't be. My son had to fight to get his money for school. I just happen to find some micofish films of his contract. Karen, a sink and a chair? very cool Did a new ottoman come with the chair? Is the old chair in the shed? (the shed could be the new dog house for the dh) :) just tell him it's his "man room" Since we're sharing sinks I never really thought about ours, probably because it doesn't bother me! But my mom commented on how she liked it and I realized that, although they're both stainless, hers is much shorter/shallower than ours. By the way, stainless sinks clean up nice and sparkly by using baking soda. Rinse well to avoid seeing baking soda ghosts after it dries. Jenn, how goes the first few days at the new job? Pretty funny. oh i forgot to say, I had another one of my Weds sessions with Comcast support over an email issue that THEY caused but made me work to fix. Arrrrgh. At one point the guy said, "well we don't support Macs." And of course I said "Well, you take my money don't you?" Jerks, Idjuts. Arrrgh. Anyway, I'm just wiped out. I've been working on two proposals for two diff clients and, of course, no guarantees I'll get either job but doing this stuff is harder than doing the work in a way.
