Generally, I liked it but would have preferred more writing about Ms Dane.
Now I am rereading The wind in the willows. When I checked it out of the Library, all four copies were in and I wonder if the children of today still read it.

I finished The Physick book of Deliverance Dane and was a little disappointed after all the good reviews and recommendation from others.

Olle, I am up here in Ashland, Oregon, home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and in the bookstore, they had a Christopher Moore book that I think is his
version of Shakespeare's Lear. I thought about picking it up for AJ but think it will be much better to read right after seeing Lear. Someday...
Last night, the dd and I saw a really good version of Henry VIII, as good as it gets for one of the history plays, I think. Henry VIII was played well and fairly sympathetically...for a king ruled by his... well, you know. Still, I wanted to yell down to Anne Boleyn, "C'mon. If he's doing it to Katharine, you know he is going to do it to you too! Run!" Sandra |

I finally gave in to its popularity and started The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and almost put it down but then the girl with the tattoo was introduced and I got much more interested. All the financial stuff in the beginning was putting me to sleep--handled much better in Stone's Fall, I thought. Everyone seems to have loved this book, so I'm seriously hoping I will too.

Finished The Scarecrow. Good, but not one of his best and definitely, NSFM (not safe for Mary)

I'm trying to play "catch up" here after being away about a week and there's a lot to read but I gather that Jill and Sandra took my
recommendation and read Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and liked it as much as we did (Curtski and I that is). I'm so delighted that others are
enjoying it because it's definitely on our top notch list for the season if not the year! Loved it and will buy more and will look forward to more of
Flavia in the future!! It's so nice to have that after that awful Zafon! (My opinion only but a real one for me!)

Beachgal, I agree about Deliverance Dane. I expected a lot more. It's well written and starts out with a very promising plot. But when it degenerates into
Hollywood-type magic -- sparks, lights and all -- it lost me.
I'm getting lots of reading ideas here. Now when to read it all?! Help. I should've taken one of those speed reading courses. :P |

I am finally back to reading after an extended break. I am trying to catch up and am enjoying the books so far. I really enjoyed Borderlands, although
I must admit I would have enjoyed just about anything after not being able to read anything during the last few months. I just finished The 19th Wife.
I really enjoyed the story and LDS history mixture. I only rated the book a three because although I enjoyed the book, mostly because it gave me a better
insight into my in-laws' religion(LDS not FLDS), I do not know of anyone that I would recommend the book to.

Agree with you two on The Scarecrow. Mind candy, but definitely not Connelly's best by a long shot. I'm
reading Girl With Dragon Tattoo too Jill...we can compare notes. I have to finish by the time I leave on vacation next
week....unfortunately, I started it, then sidetracked myself with Angel's Game, and now back to the tattoo....and
I've lost the threads...

I'm about 3/4 through The Inner Circle by TC Boyle which is another of his fictionalized portraits of a famous man; in this case, Dr Alfred Kinsey, the
famous sex researcher in the 40's and 50's. The book is supposedly seen through the eyes of a young, good-looking English major who is clueless in the
hands of "Prok", (Professor K), the name that Kinsey's intimates call him. "John Milk" is recruited by Prok and is apparently putty in
the hands of the famous man. TC Boyle is smart enough to use fiction as his vehicle for the fascinating story of Prok, a zealot with a one track mind. I
can't wait to see what other jams this man entangles Milk in next.

Monica, I took one of those speed-reading courses way back when and can tell you it doesn't help -- when you're reading fiction half the fun is the
journey and speed reading wipes that out.
Sorry to hear two bad reports on Deliverance Dane since it's here and on my TBR. Guess I just push it down a bit. Betsy, I love TC Boyle, though I don't know why since I've only read two, with two others waiting for me. Maybe I should just extend my summer reading program?
