What a total rip off! That was no fair play who dun it at all, was it.
The only moment I even thought about Natasha was that the baby might have been a reason for George to have committed the murders. But to reveal her as V's daughter? Come on! How about a clue before the last 1/8th of the book? And what was the implication that Adrian was her father as well? Was that true? What was the deal with the Count? Geeesh what a muddle. The ending completely ruined any enjoyment I had along the way. They should have called it Rabbit out of a Hat! |

Hmmm, could I have known by what was revealed? I don't think so. I decided early on it wasn't one of the kids or the ex-wife. But until I was told who
it was I had no clue.
Was anyone likable in the book? Maybe the cook and the cops. |

All is revealed! I feel as if I'm ahead of everyone, so I'm afraid to put the answer. But I did want to say that this was a good first novel. I'd
read another by this author. Even though there weren't enough real clues for the reader, I don't feel cheated at the outcome (or that I didn't
figure it out -- OKKKKK, I'll give the sneaks that much of a clue!)

I was way off the mark, I never really gave Natasha another thought once the explanation for her presence had been uncovered - that part of it seemed to fit, although the thought did cross my mind, that pretending to have a baby as part of an informant identity was carrying undercover police work a bit too far! I certainly didn't suspect her at all prior to that and didn't pick up any hints as to her relationship with Violet, were there any? I thought Mrs Romanos and Paolo were behind both of the murders - Mrs Romanos long-term loyalty to Adrian seemed misdirected and made me suspect her and I wondered if Paolo was both her and Adrian's son which would have given them a motive for bumping off Ruthven and Adrian. Paulo's acting suspiciously around the house and other furtive behaviour led me to think there was more going on with those two. I didn't suspect Violet at all really, and saw her more as an opportunist than anything. Its nice that Jeffrey and Sarah met up at the end, they seemed suited somehow! I wish there had been more clues up front - I might have made more progress…lol |

Finished! Well, I knew that Violet was involved but not the way I thought. What a mixed up bunch of people! But I was right about
Davies.

I've finished! Tada! Well, I was half right for the wrong reason! This was a fun read and a good pick for the Who Dun It game! When the author emphasized
again and again how large Violet's hands were, I didn't pick up a similar reference to Natasha's hand size and make the connection between Natasha
and her mother! And that old lady in the assisted living home; boy was she sharp! She nailed her with that photo! It's hard to believe that all those
people from Sir Adrian's mansion were in that previous mansion at the time of the first murder!
The only two who flew under my radar were Sarah and Jeffrey; I never suspected that Sarah had any hand in the murders and if I thought for even a moment that Jeffrey was maybe "too good" and might be pegged at the end it didn't stick with me for more than that moment. I'm happy that they were together at the end of the book! Good one! Old fashioned "English Drawing Room" style mystery. Not what I usually read but it was fun. Thanks guys.

Jill, you weren't the only one. I didn't care for this one -- partly because the clues seemed lacking but partly because I didn't like any of these
people! What an unpleasant group! I'm with Olle, only the cook and the cops.

You know, the more I thought about this book, the more ticked I became! It WAS not a fun read because I no longer can remember the reason why those people got
bumped, now that a couple days have passed. What is wrong with me?! I was burbling that it was fun and a good puzzle and less than a week later on, I can't
remember squat about the plot! Why was Ruthven killed off? Okay, maybe as primary heir he had to go but as wife to Adrian, it wasn't an issue any longer;
she would inherit without the mess of murder! And what's going on with that name Ruthven anyway? Strange name and strange man! He wasn't even
Adrian's son so bingo, no inheritance. The alcoholic son was trying very hard to dry out so I had some sympathy for him and for the daughter who meant well
even though she was a little "off". Why was Natasha pregnant? Is that necessary? Hm. What did I see in this book at the time of my first posts?
I loved the elderly woman in the assisted living home! I liked her before and now. I loved that Jeffrey and Sarah ended up together. I disliked Violet period and that secrecy...well it was downright stupid. Then and now. Oh well. We don't generally do very well with Who Dun Its, do we? I hope the Louise Penny works out well for us after this one!
