Ok, I'm so confused by this latest bruhaha over David Letterman. I know I know it's beneath us, but you also know everyone is talking about it today. There seem to be at least two issues: Office affairs--of the heart or just the body. If he didn't abuse his power to coerce these women, what is the big deal? Doesn't this go on all the time? We don't know when they took place but it seems like that ought to be between Letterman and his now-wife Regina (I think that's her name) Using his show to bring it out in the open in a way that makes light of it. I have to admit it gave me a major creepout. Ok sink into the mud and tell me what you think.

10/02/09 01:11 PM BCC BookieMonster	Hi BCCers! I confess, I miss discussing books with all of you... Life's gotten hectic - good, but hectic. My mom had double-knee replacement surgery in April. I went to Central IL to help for about 3 weeks. While I was there, my dad talked to me earnestly about how he wants to retire. So, long story short, my parents moved to Vegas and moved into my 3 BR house with me in late August. We're still unpacking and sorting and organizing... I have so much stuff that I was "storing" in my 2nd BR, my office (my 3rd BR), all my closets, and my garage. Yikes! And now that I work from home and not an office (my company decided that it was too expensive to keep a big office, so we all work from home now), I have a harder time being on the computer for things other than work. Because, somehow, it all seems like work! I have popped in from time to time, looking for book suggestions to read. That's how I knew about the new Louise Penny book! And I just got "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie", too. I confess, I'm great at checking books OUT of the library, but not so great about returning them. I even managed to misplace one of them, Peony by Pearl Buck, so my library fines are up to $17 now. Ugh! Anyway, I'll do my best to keep up with the BCC book-of-the-month -- it's so nice to chat about books with all of you! Currently reading: The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley Recently read: The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny

What a task you had to help out and then move them into your own home. But I bet it's nice they're not so far far away. Letterman? hadn't heard anything except what you posted here. 10/02/09 08:31 PM	I'm glad it's going to Rio, also, there's a country that could use some positive input. We had a foreign exchange student live with us in high school and she is from Rio, Brazil and my sister went there as a FE student also. We are still in contact with her. Hm, the Letterman thing, I'm not sure if I'm upset by it, he says it was before his marriage, that they were relationships so I'm not sure what the problem is, I guess some are saying that it could be sexual harassment but I don't know, when I was in the working world there were plenty of, hm, how shall this, 'overly willing' women who very eager to sleep with anyone. But I don't know all the facts. I also haven't seen his actual statement so I don't know the context or how he presented it. Nothing on Earth so beautiful as the final haul on Halloween night. 10/03/09 11:14 AM	Letterman has always seemed like a good egg, and I doubt if there was any coercion involving his relationships. It's never good to sleep with people who work FOR you, though, and I hope none of those women got hurt professionally or emotionally. The guy who was trying to blackmail him was deep in debt and it wouldn't surprise me to see him self-destruct. He's hurt one of the most beloved celebrities out there. Where do you go in life after you've done something like that? whimz, also a news junkie

10/03/09 07:00 PM BCC ZEN Bookie MASTER	I bought the most awesome train table at Costco yesterday. It's styled like Thomas the train, although it isn't that brand but it does fit those trains. It's the size of an almost square coffee table with a trundle drawer to store all the pieces when not in use and the painted top flips to plain black if you want to use it as a table. The GS has been here playing with it most of the afternoon -- so completely engrossed is he that I can come in here and read the goings on for a moment! Actually, it's unclear just who I bought this thing for -- me or the 3 year old! Karen just finished A Quiet Belief in Angels by R.J. 10/04/09 07:48 AM BCC BookieMonster	Hi! I saw that Letterman thing and thought that he brought it out on his show before they knew who the blackmailer was.... was it a way to catch who did it? Like, if Letterman owned up to what he did on live TV then there was no foothold for the blackmailing? Also, as strange as it seems that he admitted having physical relationships with people at work just before his marriage to his long-term partner, we have no idea what sort of a relationship they have. Maybe it's one of those 'open' options? She most likely knew about it before he spilled the beans on his show and said Ok. The audience got sideswiped with the inclusion of his confession in the show. His monologues are usually funny and part of the show. This was serious and they weren't forewarned- hence the inappropriate laughter. I don't think it was intended to be funny. I finished work on Friday! Hooray! Now I can nest in peace for the next 4 weeks if I last that long.
