I'm not sure how far into this wonderful book I am but I simply have no idea who dun it. I keep hoping that one of these days, LP will nail Peter as a
murderer since I am weary of him and his nonsense. It would be nice for Clara to be free of him and to move on! I don't think this is how the game is meant
to be played but it's the way I feel.

A lot of detail to sift through in this bunch of chapters.
More coming to light from the autopsy - paraffin and varathan found on the body.
Does this find tie in Old Lundin somehow? Although when questioned by Gamache, Old Lundin emphatically states he never uses Varathane and has urged Marc to go 'green'. Marc's reason for using the Varathane and why he removed the body from the hall down to the bistro, when he found it lying there just doesn't add up for me right now. Could Marc have moved the hermit on his own?
The appearance of Vincent Gilbert after such a long time seems odd. It is strange how quickly he was on the spot and his reasons for coming to assist Marc seem flimsy.
I'm thinking about Old Lundin and Marc & co being tied up in this. Gamache is puzzled as to why a young man like Old Lundin would want the quiet life in Three Pines. Is it just coincidence that Marc wanted to escape the pressures of Quebec life and chose Three Pines also - is there a link between these two?
Now the house has been found and 2 sets of fingerprints - I bet one of them belongs to Olivier!

Well, there sure is a lot of misdirection going on me thinks. Poor Olivier, he's going to get dragged through this and I just know he didn't kill the Hermit. I have faith in him as a friend of long-standing LOL. Do you think Olivier moved the body out of spite for Marc, the man? This is feeling an awful lot like Weekend at Bernie's with everyone dragging that poor corpse around. Beauvoir and the horse cracked me up--especially with the way the horse took to him. Anyhoo--nothing has happened to dissuade me from my original guess, which I'll put in a spoiler just in case so I don't ruin things. I don't think it's the Hadley house folks though that would be convenient. I think they'll just go away. Here goes:

Now I have no idea who the culprit is. I thought it was Marc but he was only involved with moving the body. It had to be someone who wanted to destroy
Marc's attempt to make a new life for himself.
This time I didn't read the other comments

I wonder if the hermit was not responsible for some of Old's furniture. I think Old is involved somehow. It seems almost a given that Oliver's
fingerprints are in the cabin. He brought the food after all. Maybe the Hermit was already murdered when Oliver went back to the cabin. Maybe Oliver took
whatever was in the package. That was what he was after and why he had invested so much time in the Hermit. He must have given up on the rest of the antiques
because the hermit had only promised him the package. Oliver is not a thief. I grew up in a family of antique dealers and without profit there is no dinner. I
have even sold a few things myself for far less than they were worth because it sometimes takes too long to wait for the person who will pay that price.

I wish for a map of Three Pines. I swear the Hadley house ended up being in a totally different place than where I'd always imagined it. Maybe I just
haven't paid close attention.
Of course, I have no clue who did it but Olivier is getting deeper and deeper. Why the heck didn't he just come right out and say he knew the guy and where he lived? He's probably created a big bunch of trouble for himself, unless Gamache solves the thing without exposing him and then just has the quiet word with him? Of course, I don't think Olivier did it. Does Ruth seem crazier than usual? I always saw her as just incredibly cranky and foul tempered, not as nuts as she seemed to be at dinner. But we'll probably find later that she served that strange meal to get Olivier to reopen the Bistro because that's the best thing for him, emotionally. And what was Morin afraid of? (pg 126) And how does Beauvoir see himself as the bloodhound? I've never thought of him that way. Do you see Gamache's daughter Annie and Beauvoir getting together? I sure do.

But Annie's married isn't she? And so is Beauvoir.

They are both married, but she put on her public face in front of her husband there was a mention of a sort of sterility in the Beauvoir marriage. I think
Annie and Jean Guy's constant bickering is a sign of love in bloom.
I think something will be coming there in future books. But, maybe not. That wretched what's-her-name from the first couple of books just sort of disappeared.
