BCCJillster: Morning Chris
someonegetchristine: I disappeared...
someonegetchristine: Hi Karen!
BCCJillster: HOw is everyoe feelig?
BCCJillster: Hey who stole me N
someonegetchristine: Good, good and you ??
riverblue: you did!
riverblue: all good
BCCJillster: recovered?
riverblue: yes, cross fingers!! I'm so over bugs!!!
riverblue: and nasties
BCCJillster: It's amazing how many people have been ill
wernoclue: Hey, where has Betsy been lately? Is she sick, too.
someonegetchristine: so far, I've avoided anything nasty
BCCJillster: I think she has house company
wernoclue: Lucky you, Chris.
*** (19:03):Welcome to New Chatroom , dlee10.u!
BCCJillster: YAYYYY Deb
wernoclue: Deb!
someonegetchristine: Hi Deb !
riverblue: i've never gone from one thing to another like thishi deb
dlee10: I raced home to get here! Hi all!
someonegetchristine: well done Deb
BCCJillster: We should get a husband-sitter for PBee
BCCJillster: Glad you did Deb
dlee10: I used to have a sitter for my mother in law
riverblue: it would be great if she could jpoin us
BCCJillster: I think she'd like to be here but it's too distracting
*** (19:04):Welcome to New Chatroom , jodijoy.u!
BCCJillster: Hey it's Ms Jodi
wernoclue: Jodi! Now we just need Olle here.
riverblue: good morning jodi
someonegetchristine: Hi Jodi!
jodijoy: good afternoon!
dlee10: nice crowd. hi Jodi
BCCJillster: Olle must be planting bulbs LOL
wernoclue: You early birds in NZ amaze me.
someonegetchristine: did you bring the croissants Jodi?
wernoclue: Oh, don't say that -- that's whay I should be doing.
BCCJillster: oooo I'll make coffee
jodijoy: no, but I have brie
BCCJillster: Oh perfect, baguettes too?
*** (19:05):Welcome to New Chatroom , beachgal.u!
BCCJillster: YAY Rema!
wernoclue: I have eggs and peppers and stuff to put in omelettes.
riverblue: hi rema
dlee10: I have scotch and candy corn
someonegetchristine: Hi Rema!
wernoclue: Hi rema.
someonegetchristine: yummy Karen!
beachgal: Hi everyone
jodijoy: I do have lamb stew though
riverblue: karen, sounds good
BCCJillster: LOLLLLLDeb
BCCJillster: Well, quite a book wasn't it?
dlee10: I really enjoyed it
BCCJillster: I'm so glad to see so many of you here, this is so cool
wernoclue: It certainly was.
someonegetchristine: another gem, enjoyed it
riverblue: so good to be back in Three pines
wernoclue: I enjoyed it, too.
BCCJillster: Isn't it funny how we all love that town
dlee10: don't agree with the outcome but still...
BCCJillster: I know I know
beachgal: I liked this mystery the best of three pines
someonegetchristine: likewise deb
BCCJillster: Do you think maybe he'll get out of it somehow in the next book?
dlee10: It takes a very brave author to destroy a main character
wernoclue: I think we're not the only ones who love it. One of the reviews on the back of this one said something about wanting to move their with all new best friends.
riverblue: even with Olivier guilty?
wernoclue: How long does one get for manslaughter in Canada?
dlee10: I don't think O is guilty
BCCJillster: The series is amaziingly popular
wernoclue: The one thing I don't get about the resolution is ... was this sudden anger on O's part?
*** (19:08):someonegetchristine.u quit the room
*** (19:08):Welcome to New Chatroom , someonegetchristine.u!
BCCJillster: I thought so...bulding frustration...WB
dlee10: I think his anger built up over time because the hermit withheld the last carving
BCCJillster: Do you think he really left and went back? Or...?
someonegetchristine: I'm having problems big time - be back shortly
riverblue: karen - yes. I get ti but I wasn't completely satisfied with the end
BCCJillster: OK Chris
*** (19:08):someonegetchristine.u quit the room
wernoclue: I think so. That's why the anger srikes me wrong.
jodijoy: It is very brave of her to destroy Olivier, but also very sad. Someone on Amazon said they knew right away, but they hadn't read the other books - so no preconceived ideas
riverblue: don't know idf it's just denial on my part
jodijoy: How could O be so rotten???
beachgal: Why did he ghink the bag was so valuable?
BCCJillster: I think O was just obsessed
wernoclue: Because he'd gotten so much money for the other carvings.
dlee10: maybe he didn't think it was necessarily valuable it was just that he couldn't have it
wernoclue: He's already netted something like $1.5M for the first 8.
riverblue: but he must have known he couldn't hide for long
BCCJillster: Anyone remember which book he skunked soemone over a cabinet or table?
wernoclue: Well, he was right that if the focus was on the Gilbert's he would have had time to clear the cabin.
beachgal: His fingerprints were all over the place
dlee10: I find it hard to believe that Gabri didn't notice him missing at night for what years?
wernoclue: I don't, Jill. But I think I'm going to re read them all soon. Well, the first 3 anyway.
BCCJillster: But that could have been explained away...fingerprints
wernoclue: Gabri must be a heavy sleeper.
BCCJillster: Well, he worked late on Sat to begin with, Olivier....
BCCJillster: but doesn't Gabri work at the bistro too?
dlee10: Still...
riverblue: must have been a busy night for that body - heaved around all over the village!
wernoclue: I think not always because he has the B&B -- which I often have trouble separating from the bistro.
BCCJillster: OMG I kept thinking of Weekend a Bernies
dlee10: lol
BCCJillster: I still don't understand Victor showing up
jodijoy: Me neither
riverblue: apart from the end which I am having trouble with - there was so much to enjoy and think about with this book
beachgal: to provide another suspect
BCCJillster: LOL Rema
wernoclue: I wonder if Victor et al will become TP fixtures now.
dlee10: I can't help but think the Parra's are involved somehow. The Chez. connection. Money to build a fab. house
jodijoy: I keep oscillating between: wow she tricked us! and hey, she tricked us! (grrr)
BCCJillster: I was SO sure about the Czech connection, I practically wrote a whole other book
*** (19:13):Welcome to New Chatroom , someonegetchristine.u!
BCCJillster: Reboot Chris?
someonegetchristine: I've surfaced again, sorry about that
wernoclue: Yay, chris is back?
riverblue: where did I read - no such thing as co-incidence and there were a lot in this
someonegetchristine: yes total reboot..
beachgal: It seemed more plausable Czech conn.+
wernoclue: We just wanted it to be the Czech connection because we didn't want it to be Olivier, don't you think?
jodijoy: Exactly!
riverblue: victors arrival, the czech connection
wernoclue: I do wonder why she chose to do that.
BCCJillster: Still Life, Three Graces, and this are my faves now
someonegetchristine: Still Life was my favourite...
dlee10: One of the reasons I was so shocked was Havok's name. I thought the the hermit and the Parras must have a shared folklore
wernoclue: What was the 3rd one called.
BCCJillster: Well the whole thing about Brutal Telling and remembering faces
jodijoy: nurder stone
jodijoy: Murder
wernoclue: Wasn't that 4?
someonegetchristine: was it The Murder Stone?
riverblue: deb, yes - all the references to Chaos and heres a Havoc
BCCJillster: exactly Deb
BCCJillster: And that story, seemed so clearly about war coming
jodijoy: Oh right, Curellest Month was the other one
wernoclue: I can see that Olivier managed to scare the guy with his story, since the guy was already frightened by the breakdown in Czechoslovakia.
jodijoy: cruel
BCCJillster: although I was confused early on about who was telling the tale
wernoclue: Cruellest Month -- there ya go.
dlee10: and feeling guilty over having stolen treasures
BCCJillster: I've forgotten the plot of Cruelest month
jodijoy: brb
riverblue: me too Jill - thought it was the Hermit
wernoclue: So was I. I want to re read this now because I had the impression it was Olivier being frightened by the story at the beginning.
BCCJillster: The fact that Olivier scared him with the story is almost worse than the murder
someonegetchristine: did Olivier confess to the murder ?
BCCJillster: mean, protrated
BCCJillster: I don't think so, did he?
dlee10: That was awful. But being cruel and manipulative does not mean you are capable of murder
BCCJillster: Do you think he got angrier trudging back?
BCCJillster: He confessed to the antique and carving stuff
wernoclue: I don't know. That's the part I'm suddenly having trouble with -- that he worked up enouch anger to kill.
wernoclue: When he'd just been sitting there having tea with the guy!
BCCJillster: Did we have hints of flashes of anger with him?
wernoclue: Not that I remember.
dlee10: I don't remember O being so cruel in the other books. Did I miss it?
riverblue: when earlier in the book he worries that that the truth will never be believed
jodijoy: back
BCCJillster: Imagine, a haracter lied to us! to US
wernoclue: The noive!
jodijoy: the noive!
wernoclue: LOL
BCCJillster: LOLLL
riverblue: i feel like there wwas a lot there to make us believe that he didn't do it despite the evidence
jodijoy: lol
someonegetchristine: exactly we'd never forgive them
someonegetchristine: what will Gabri do now ?
dlee10: Gabri will wait
wernoclue: I'm telling you, that woman from book 4 needs to come and cook.
BCCJillster: well, mostly it was what we knew of Olivier and how much we enjoyed the atmosphere at the Bistro
wernoclue: She can mother Gabri at the same time.
BCCJillster: that's what I said too
someonegetchristine: what was her name, I've forgotten
jodijoy: well Louise is finishing up book 6...
dlee10: sister veronica
someonegetchristine: Thanks Deb
wernoclue: Was that it? Good memory, Deb.
dlee10: I have flashes..
BCCJillster: LOL...what was the end for her in that book?
riverblue: wonder if these new characters are going to take a bigger role
wernoclue: When is book 6 supposed to be out? I'm already antsy for it.
BCCJillster: I liked Dominique and her mom too
riverblue: old Mundin and The Wife - she must use them again - I liked them and want to get to know them
wernoclue: Yes, she gave us several interesting new TP residents.
dlee10: I know Louise needs more people to convict and to murder if she wants the setting to stay in 3 pines but I really like the way it was. I don't react well to change!
riverblue: Yes Dominique and Carol too
someonegetchristine: Marc may buy the B&B
BCCJillster: Noooo that wouldn't be right
riverblue: hope not chris!!
wernoclue: I was using Google earth to look at the area south of Montreal; didn't look like Three Pines to me.
dlee10: No, then we would loose Gabri too
BCCJillster: Poor Gabi, who is he going to meet there?
someonegetchristine: he'll keep gabri on as manager
wernoclue: Or is it supposed to be south of Quebec City?
BCCJillster: OH...why in the world did Ruth dress up that poor duck?
riverblue: i thought montrael karen
wernoclue: No, no... Olivier owned all of that property so Gabri can stay and run things.
beachgal: There is always a possibility that Olivier would not be found guilty.
riverblue: montreal
BCCJillster: Doesn't that seem a bit out of character for her?
wernoclue: Well, the duck couldn't fly with clothes on, could it?
BCCJillster: Or If O gets away on a technicality? how will the town treat him?
BCCJillster: Is that why?
wernoclue: That's what I think.
dlee10: I realized early on the Ruth was going to let Rosa fly away but it was painful when it actually happend
riverblue: yes, he did some pretty unforgiveable things
wernoclue: He did, and murder was almost the least of it.
BCCJillster: exactly what I was thinking
riverblue: he betrayed their trust hugely
wernoclue: He kept that guy from becoming part of the town life with his story.
dlee10: I have to agree that he did some unforgiveable things even if I don't think he was the murderer
wernoclue: Remember, the Hermit would have come to hear Gabri sing at the church but O didn't want him there.
BCCJillster: I guess it's a bit easier to believe (though not fully) now that we know about the purpose of the story
wernoclue: Didn't want others to know he was there with all those goodies.
someonegetchristine: do you think it was someone else deb?
dlee10: I think the Parra's know more than they are letting on. And we really don't know anything about Morin accept he knows his way around a fiddle
someonegetchristine: the Hermit wanted to move out into the community more and live normally
BCCJillster: I thought Gamache searched the fireplace because they found nothing at Havoc's place
wernoclue: I think there were two reasons for that.
BCCJillster: Don't mess up Morin so soon
dlee10: I think Gamache was suspisious of the fireplace from the get go
someonegetchristine: I didn't pick up earlier references to the fireplace if there were any,
dlee10: lol
riverblue: still wonder where victor had been and what he wants - I'm not convinced about his motives in coming back
BCCJillster: There were...about why were there fires
wernoclue: 1) he realized all the physical evidence pointed to O
wernoclue: and 2) he always thought it odd that the fires were lit that morning.
BCCJillster: yes to both
someonegetchristine: I agree about (1) but missed on (2)
wernoclue: I think he ponders it more than once, but definitely the first morning.
riverblue: if i was shocked thouygh - i feel cold and i can completely understand lighting the fires - it wasn't cold but uit was damp and overcast
dlee10: I think the lawyer for the defense would be really desperate to get me on the jury. I just can't seem to convict
BCCJillster: and cheerless
BCCJillster: LOLL Deb
someonegetchristine: Yeah karen, I didn't pick up on that clue
wernoclue: LOL Deb.
BCCJillster: Why did O need so much money? Or was it for the hunt?
wernoclue: I was just reading the Amazon description of Cruelest Month. Are you sure I read this book?
BCCJillster: We didn't know how attached he was to money
wernoclue: for the hunt?
beachgal: Like Johnny Rocco he wanted more
BCCJillster: until we found out the past
BCCJillster: the Hunt for Antiques
riverblue: he seemed to have a need that just couyldn't be satisfied
wernoclue: Ah.
someonegetchristine: We read CM karen
dlee10: I think O needed to prove himself worthy and money was what he knew was respected. His father was awful
BCCJillster: Karen what was the basic plot?
wernoclue: I know we did but even reading the description it's not coming back to me.
wernoclue: A visiting psychic drops dead in the old Hadley house.
someonegetchristine: Hehad made ltos of money in his early banking career
BCCJillster: it was the seond murder there right?
riverblue: he wasn't completely ethical there either as it turned out Chris
dlee10: that money wasn't his though. He gave that back to the bank
wernoclue: I think third. Was the Graces one 2nd?
riverblue: they were never sure he gave it all back deb
dlee10: oh
someonegetchristine: a man with a dark past
wernoclue: I think it appears taht he skimmed some of that -- and invested in 3 Pines
BCCJillster: Oh wait, was that the one where they hunted upstairs in the Hadley place and there was a ird?
BCCJillster: bird?
wernoclue: I think so...
jodijoy: yes
someonegetchristine: that rings a bell
jodijoy: and snakes?
riverblue: was that where peters friend lived
jodijoy: or something they thought was snakes
BCCJillster: and a lot of the book focussed on Nicole and Gamache's troubles
BCCJillster: No snakes in the first book
wernoclue: Yes to that last, according to the PW review.
someonegetchristine: Nicole?
dlee10: I thought it was the money from the carivngs that went into 3 Pines. And Gabri knew that they had a lot of money. I think Gabri knew something about O leavving at night.
BCCJillster: the woman rookie cop
riverblue: nichols?
someonegetchristine: Agent Nicolls?
someonegetchristine: did anyone miss her ?
BCCJillster: Not miss but I was curious
dlee10: I keep waithing for her to return
riverblue: did wonder where she was
wernoclue: I do wonder what happened to her.
jodijoy: maybe she's in book 6
BCCJillster: People sort of wander in and out of these books
wernoclue: Deb, they had to have some money to even start in Thre Pines, and that must have come from the bank.
jodijoy: they do... in the books the women come and go...
BCCJillster: Was the old woman who died in the street (homeless) Clara's mother?
dlee10: that makes sense
BCCJillster: In the earlier book...Three Graces
wernoclue: Perhaps initially they had only the bistro and/or the B&B but now he owns practically all of the business district.
riverblue: don't remember that
someonegetchristine: I'm assuming gabri had an investment in the B&B, it'll be interesting to see what happens
wernoclue: Not Clara's mother -- the other woman's mother.
BCCJillster: which woman?
wernoclue: The woman who was the horrible mother of the child.
dlee10: They started out in a dingy apartment so they didn't have that much at first
wernoclue: The woman obsessed with Eleanor of Acquitaine.
BCCJillster: Really??? wow I didn't remember that
wernoclue: S"Okay, I didn't remember the bird until you mentioned it.
BCCJillster: I was trying to think when we heard about the third woman in the painting
riverblue: don't remember any of that - what's wrong with me?
BCCJillster: um, you have a life
wernoclue: I think the third painting wasn't mentioned until this book, was it?
BCCJillster: right
BCCJillster: and it was Clara as it turned out
dlee10: and we read more than 2 books ayear!!
riverblue: well, that's true
wernoclue: Now I can't remember who the 2nd painting is of...
BCCJillster: dang you had to ask
wernoclue: LOL I'm in good company then?
BCCJillster: oh yeah
dlee10: What do you think of Peter's new painting?
wernoclue: Odd.
riverblue: very odd
BCCJillster: OMG that was too funny....a circle and some dots?
riverblue: where's he going with this?
someonegetchristine: only he knows!
wernoclue: Nowhere.
BCCJillster: I wonder if he'll passage from being so literal to more creative?
dlee10: Do you think he is loosing confidence the more accolades Clara gets?
BCCJillster: Or will he fall apart?
*** (19:37):Welcome to New Chatroom , Olle.u!
someonegetchristine: yes definitely, he can't handle her success
jodijoy: I think he is... the more she gets, the more he seems to come unhinged
wernoclue: I think he'll fall apart. His enby is intense.
BCCJillster: YAYYY YES OLLE
wernoclue: OLLE!
someonegetchristine: Hi olle !
riverblue: and will he undermine her? Will that marriage survive?
jodijoy: hi ollle!
dlee10: Hi
wernoclue: Did you get your bulbs planted? Want to come do mine?
Olle: sorry but at least I remembered before it ended...
BCCJillster: We were looking for you Olle
riverblue: Olle - hello
dlee10: I really want Clara to knock him down a cliff
wernoclue: Not Clara. She's too nice. Have Ruth do it.
Olle: lol I can tell you're talking about peter
riverblue: he's sneaky
BCCJillster: I'm telling you, Louise has too much empathy for Peter
wernoclue: He's enormously flawed.
Olle: But you can't have everyone in TP be nice
BCCJillster: she knows how we feel and pushed back
dlee10: Clara's biggest flaw is not seeing his
riverblue: just can't trust him not to hurt Clara
BCCJillster: She loves him anyway I guess
wernoclue: So far we have Olivier, Peter and Ruth who are all not very nice -- although I think Ruth actually is.
BCCJillster: Me too...she's a marshmallow inside
wernoclue: That's quite a large number considering how few people in Three Pines we really know.
riverblue: she was portrayed a little differently in this one - a drunk??
dlee10: Do you think her poem was a warning to Beauvoir?
BCCJillster: Myrna...we need to know more about her
wernoclue: She was. Another reason I want to re read -- get a better fix on Ruth.
riverblue: yes jill
BCCJillster: Someoneneeds to piece together that poem for us
someonegetchristine: Myrna had more presence in one of the earlier books, was it still Life?
wernoclue: Myrna is the only one not fully fleshed out, don't you think?
riverblue: myrna was on the sidelines a lot in this one
BCCJillster: No I think it was one where Gamache needed her advice
dlee10: she also has the most flesh
BCCJillster: LOLLL
someonegetchristine: I don't have the book now
someonegetchristine: lol
BCCJillster: She'll have her turn to be center stage I bet
wernoclue: Probably.
wernoclue: Just hope it's in a good way.
dlee10: as long as it isn't the victem or the murderer
BCCJillster: Olle, who was the woman in the second of three paintings, one was Ruth, the third Clara
dlee10: peter's mother?
Olle: shrug\
wernoclue: YES!
BCCJillster: OHHHH Right
BCCJillster: Good Girl Deb
Olle: and what was she showing?
BCCJillster: that's twice you've saved us
riverblue: peters mother
riverblue: the second portait
riverblue: oh busy looking it up and deb beat me
BCCJillster: Olle we've voted to bring Sister Veronica in to cook
Olle: good choice
BCCJillster: But maybe we nned someone with more conflct about her?
Olle: she has a past, oui?
BCCJillster: oui, but explored already,non?
Olle: maybe they'll use the mother from the spa to cook
BCCJillster: I loved the way she wrote the horses LOL
wernoclue: She doesn't seem the type
Olle: that Moose! lol
riverblue: me too
BCCJillster: and Beauvoir and the horse
riverblue: loved the one biting victor
BCCJillster: and leaving slobber
Olle: then the horse needed a tetnus shot
BCCJillster: What has Louise said about the next book Jodi?
jodijoy: I *think* she said it was being edited.
someonegetchristine: when is it due for release?
jodijoy: right now she's on the whirlwind tour for this one
jodijoy: dunno
BCCJillster: Hey I just rememebered...wasn't there a small town near 3 Pines that the relatives from Still LIfe lived in
BCCJillster: maybe that will ome back onto the action
wernoclue: One carving had Charlotte on the bottom, the other had Emily. Who was Emily? Was that the name of that artist in the statue?
someonegetchristine: we should draw up a topo map of the district
BCCJillster: Yes Emily Carr
someonegetchristine: that's right
wernoclue: Ah, I couldn't remember.
dlee10: that part made no sense to me
riverblue: still don't get the nedd to visit the Charlottes
wernoclue: Chris, check Google Earth.
BCCJillster: I could swear I have a book by that name or by that author
someonegetchristine: will do karen
Olle: I know Deb is convinced O didn't do it. Anyone else? Or was this discussed before I came in and I'll read it in the log....
someonegetchristine: is anyone familair with the Queen Charlotte area?
wernoclue: I did that the other night and couldn't find Three Pines! Or even a reasonable facsimile thereof.
BCCJillster: I think he might have done it out of anger, but might get away with it and come back..
wernoclue: I know nothing about it. But it was nice to read the descriptions.
Olle: Karen, you checked Goog Earth for 3Pines?
BCCJillster: LOL Karen, it's like Brigadoon
someonegetchristine: he'll plead manslaughter, provocation and get off !!
wernoclue: LOL Sort of. I was hoping I'd find something at least similar.
Olle: fun
riverblue: but can he come back?
BCCJillster: That's the problem...
Olle: Barb, he could. couldn't he?
BCCJillster: but at least he and Gabri could go off together?
wernoclue: Clara and Ruth and Myrna would have him back, and who else matters?
someonegetchristine: retrofit
dlee10: Won't Gamache feel bad to have arrested an innocent man?
wernoclue: He's not innocent, Deb.
wernoclue: Sorry.
Olle: lol he would if he was innocent
BCCJillster: he's not innocent of all the other stuff
riverblue: and that was horrible stuff
BCCJillster: cruel
wernoclue: Yeah, like we said before, he did a lot of bad stuff and murder was almost the least of it.
BCCJillster: Rema, how did you feel about all this?
riverblue: how do you forgive and forget that?
dlee10: Okay, I'll let it go. The other stuff was really worse than murder because it took someone's life while he was still stuck living it
beachgal: No one else fits the role of the murderer
Olle: AFter this I'll never be able to guess what Louise will do with her characters!
wernoclue: I think Gabri was always the one with the playful sense of humor but I don't feel like I "know" those two very well.
Olle: Not that I really could before.......
BCCJillster: It's pretty great that she broke the rules
wernoclue: Me either, Olle.
wernoclue: Yes, an impressive thing to do.
beachgal: I think he will come back to 3 pINES.
BCCJillster: I'm sorry she killed of that really interesting woman in the first book
wernoclue: Jane, yes, so am I.
wernoclue: I still want to see Jane's house.
riverblue: yes jill, i always thought Jnae sounded really interestying
Olle: I wonder how people reading as their first 3P book will think of it.
BCCJillster: Rema, that would be interesting
BCCJillster: I don't know how they could really 'get' it
BCCJillster: we didn't even get a joke in Myrna's bouquet this time
someonegetchristine: those big floral arrangements !
BCCJillster: I want to reread Still Life--I never reread mysteries
someonegetchristine: I was jsut thinking of doing the same
riverblue: what did you think the poem fragments ruth kept sending beauvoir were about ?
wernoclue: Nor do I, but I'm going to make my face grop read it for January.
dlee10: annie
Olle: do you think
someonegetchristine: some kind of cryptic message
BCCJillster: Barb, I'm really curious about that
Olle: oops
Olle: do you think Ruth knew O did it?
someonegetchristine: I'd have to re-read them
wernoclue: I think Ruth has unimagined depths.
wernoclue: I'm not good at poetry. Too literal, I think.
Olle: How would Ruth know about Annie?
BCCJillster: she was obviously hinting at something but I thought it had more to do with Beauvoir than the murder
wernoclue: Ditto.
someonegetchristine: yep, agree
riverblue: me too but it was never really addressed
BCCJillster: she can't know about Annie though...only Karen does
dlee10: Wasn't there a reference to a lion and Annie's nickname was little lion?
wernoclue: But Olle's right -- how would she know about Annie? Unless she's uber-sympathetic to the point of being psychic.
dlee10: Louise told her
riverblue: LOL
wernoclue: Aha!
BCCJillster: I htought there was some affection for Beauvoir buried in all that from Ruth
Olle: lol
BCCJillster: LOLLLLLL Deb
Olle: who will type in the poem for us in the BT thread? (don't have book any more) prettttty pleaseeeee
BCCJillster: I wonder if Louise identifies most with Ruth?
riverblue: beauvoir didn't think so - he felt almosy almost persecuted
wernoclue: Yes, Deb, at the very end Beauvoir's looking at the stuffed lion and thinking of Annie.
Olle: He feels persecuted from anything he doesn't like/understand
wernoclue: I'll try to do it this weekend Olle.
riverblue: thats true
Olle: you are the bestest of the best
BCCJillster: that would be super Karen
someonegetchristine: thanks karen
dlee10: It was the duck that really got to me though. I would rate this book a 4 based on the duck alone
wernoclue: All the lines of poetry are italicized, aren't the?
BCCJillster: Don't worry about the order eeither LOL
jodijoy: the duck and the horses
someonegetchristine: yes Karen
BCCJillster: I thought it was wonderful of Ruth to let her go
wernoclue: It's like she set the duck free to prove something to Gabri.
riverblue: and they all contributed clothes to the duck
Olle: I thought letting Rosa go said a lot about who Ruth was inside vs. how she acts outside
BCCJillster: that was my thought too Karen
BCCJillster: that Gabri could let go and survive
wernoclue: Yes, and I also agree with Olle's comment.
BCCJillster: But I don't think she did it for that reason
riverblue: poor gabri - he was so stuck
wernoclue: You don't?
BCCJillster: nope...I think when she heard them fly over the first time she had pangs
Olle: I don't think she staged when Rosa left, so how could it be for one person's benefit?
BCCJillster: she loved Rosa so much
wernoclue: I think she did stage it. That's why Rosa wasn't wearing clothes at that moment.
BCCJillster: She did arrange it though Olle...she didn't dress Rosa that day
Olle: Well, right. But did she wait until other people were watching her?
dlee10: She sort of could control when Rosa left though...no clothes on so she could fly
BCCJillster: but she couldn't have known Gabri would be out there
Olle: that's what I meant by staged.
BCCJillster: She couldn't know when they'd fly over
wernoclue: Weren't Gabri and Gamache already walking and talking when Ruth came out with Rosa?
BCCJillster: and Rosa responded to joining them
BCCJillster: someone pinch Jodi
wernoclue: *pinch*
jodijoy: ow
someonegetchristine: LOL
wernoclue: Finally got her attention!
jodijoy: someone hand jodi some instant allergy meds
jodijoy: achioooooo!!!!!
BCCJillster: Sorry, I'm using all I can find
someonegetchristine: and a strong black coffee?
Olle: is that like a vodka shot?
jodijoy: no vodka.... sleeepy....
BCCJillster: ummm a vodka shot?
BCCJillster: is that like a jello shot?
Olle: down the hatch
BCCJillster: Jodi it was the runny brie that got you
jodijoy: it's like a pollen (?) shote
BCCJillster: more like mold
jodijoy: no, it's the runny nose and the itchy eyes
someonegetchristine: hayfever ?
BCCJillster: tis the season for mildew and mold
Olle: I do agree with others that this book was one of her strongest, I haven't thought all of them were all that great. Which is normal for a series, that's for srue.
BCCJillster: nothing's growing
wernoclue: Oh, I just saw that Brutal Telling is an IndieNext pick.
dlee10: how about a claritan shot
Olle: with a water chaser
jodijoy: I took some (not working yet)
BCCJillster: they're calling this her breakout book
wernoclue: In order I would rank Still Life first and this one second.
Olle: Karen, what's IndieNext?
someonegetchristine: agree Olle, this one stood out from a couple of the earlier ones
BCCJillster: and throw in the Three Graces for the history of these folks
Olle: I'm glad she's getting more notice
BCCJillster: She has gotten so many awards though
someonegetchristine: WSe're having a chat with Louise ??
wernoclue: American Booksellers Association chooses books to feature in indie stores.
Olle: oh ok
dlee10: I'm going to the museum tomorrow. I'll take a pic of the 3 graces
BCCJillster: If enough people will commit....I'd ask her
wernoclue: Three Graces would be my 3rd fave.
BCCJillster: even if it's just all of us
wernoclue: I was reluctant to commit before because I was disappointed in Murder Stone.
wernoclue: Now I'm happier!
BCCJillster: yeah but this is a doozie LOL
someonegetchristine: Murder Stone was a disappointment
BCCJillster: agree
wernoclue: This one is fab
BCCJillster: Brilliant
dlee10: it is awful to chat with an author when you aren't happy with the book
BCCJillster: can I do a one-word review?
wernoclue: Agreed.
wernoclue: Sure. What's the word?
someonegetchristine: fire away Jill
BCCJillster: yeah Deb, it was risky
Olle: I was imaging the families in Europe wishing/hoping/waiting for the person(hermit) they trusted to come through for them
BCCJillster: that was it...Brilliant
Olle: so sad
wernoclue: Oh, she already said -- Brilliant.
someonegetchristine: we learned so little about him
BCCJillster: don't want to give anything away ....can't atlk about her breaking the rules or being gutsy
wernoclue: You know, I'd never given much thought to how things must have broken down there after the Soviet fall.
BCCJillster: That whole era over there, just horrid...I don't know lots of details, but there was a lot of brutality
wernoclue: There must be a book out there somewhere about that!
Olle: and that Amber Glass thing? what was it called?
beachgal: Maybe he will find God and repent
Yes, Olle, it was strange that he kept all that stuff, didin't make any money off it
It
BCCJillster: Oh right...that must be real
wernoclue: The Amber Room? What was that? Is that a real thing?
Olle: it sounded kind of big, it was in front of a window. how did it not break?
BCCJillster: It was just a piece of it...thick glass I think
jodijoy: It is! There was a big amber exhibit at the Museum of Natural History
Olle: Yeah Rema, wasn't that the tie-in to the Islands? he decided to not capitalize on that crime?
jodijoy: They had a facsimile? PHotos? Something... can't reme mber
BCCJillster: nIt is real...it's on google
BCCJillster: amazing!!!!!
Olle: and it's lost?
BCCJillster: don't know
wernoclue: The original Amber Room represented a joint effort of German and Russian craftsmen. Construction of the Amber Room began in 1701 to 1709 in Prussia.
BCCJillster: it glows
Olle: maybe it'll be found years and years from now....like the Dead Sea Scrolls
wernoclue: That's a snippet from Wikipedia.
