Hi, Chuck. Glad to hear you're health has improved. I'm doing well, except I can't find anything to read. I'm in a fantasy mood, but nothing is catching my interest and I don't want epic fantasy. Oh well, I guess this just gives me more time to play WoW.

Heya all,
Everything is fine here... I don't have a lot of time for reading with 2 kids but anyway I manage to find some... Currently reading Old Man's War by John Scalzi. So far it is very good and there is some good humor in it. Later,

Eric kids definitely eat the time up. I don't have any myself but my niece and nephew live with me. They eat the time up and they aren't mine. lol. But they might as well be mine.
Queen: don't know what to read in fantasy? I don't know if Bujold's new series is Epic or not. Want to read it. The one where Beguilement is the first book in a series. Ever read S. M. Stirling? His Dies the Fire series is more like a fantasy than scifi. It is alternate history and the cause of what happens is sort of scifi. But the whole story centers on how a bunch of people deal with what happens and how mankind has to revert almost back to medieval ways in order to survive. A very very character driven story. Lots of people who don't get into scifi and are more fantasy driven tend to like this series of books alot. I think you might too. Mercedes Lackey has a new book coming out I seen but don't khow anything about it. Raymond Feist has bk two of a trilogy coming out in the Midkemia books. Don't know if you like him or not. I don't know if you consider that epic or not. Tad Williams has bk two Shadowplay coming out and I know that is epic so probably not want you want. That is about all I can think of at the moment. Is W of W any good? Never played it myself. Sounds alot like D&D to me. Margaret Weis has a new one I think but I don't know much about it. Harry Turtledove has written one I think is fantasy in Beyond the Gap. Just started reading it. Will let you know. Glad somebody responded. I was beginning to think everyone disappeared. lol. Take care all. I know we all have busy lives to run. I never know when I am going to be good or bad health. I am doing really well. So well I think I am healthy again which really isn't true at all. Have a good evening and week! Chuck |

I just looked at the new Bujold on Amazon, not sure it appeals to me. I want a NEW Miles story (not more recycling and repackaging, GRRR).
The books we think we ought to read are poky, dull, and dry;
The books that we would like to read we are ashamed to buy; The books that people talk about we never can recall; And the books that people give us, oh, theyre the worst of all.--        Carolyn Wells |

The Sharing Knife: Beguilement is a romantic fantasy (stress on the romantic) and is the first half of the book. The second half, The Sharing Knife: Legacy will be coming out in July. Legacy is more fantasy than romance. After Legacy there is another book, also divided into two books, continuing The Sharing Knife story.
There is one Miles book under contract. Lois will not be working on it until next year at the earliest. So, the next Miles book will probably be available around 2010. As for trying Stirling, for some reason, I don't really like him. No basis for this opinion since I've only read The City Who Fought by him. If the Lackey book you're talking about is in the 100 Kingdoms series that started with Fairy Godmother, I'm not really interested. I didn't like Fariy Godmother at all. I would like to recommend the Alera series by Jim Butcher. The latest, Cursor's Fury is very, very good. I can't wait for Captain's Fury to come out in December. Also, for people who have read Covenants by Lorna Freeman, Shadow's Prey is coming out in December too. WoW is a lot of fun, IMO. However, it can also be a major time sink, especially when you reach level 70 (the max level). I think WoW is similar to Diablo II, Everquest, and FFXI. It's kind of like Zelda but multiplayer. I just don't have that kind of time to get involved in a game like that as much as I think i would enjoy it.

The Dies the Fire series is similar to the 1632 series, in idea, at least, right? If so, I've heard about it and at this time, not really interested. Maybe some other time.
Right now, I have the water world book by Gould on my TBR pile (of one). Kelvin told me it is good, but I just don't want to pick it up. I'm in a mood. I'm also the person who had Covenants sitting on my desk for over a year (according to Kelvin, I don't remember how long I had it there) before I read it and then started raving about how good the book is. Not really like 1632 at all. Do you know his Island in the Sea of Time series? The event that sent Nantucket Island back to BC time? Well this series takes place in the present time of the event. What happens to those left here. Total chaos for awhile. It is set mainly up in the Corvallis region of Oregon. Remnants of civilization form groups to survive. The characters are very compelling. It isn't written like 1632. I like 1632 don't get me wrong but I like Dies the Fire better.
Got an advanced reader's copy of Sarah Douglass The Serpent Bride. Just started reading and got to review it for HarperCollins. Never read any Sarah Douglass before. Hope it is good. Got tons to read and little time. So take care. Hope you get out of your funk. I understand those all too well. I find I have less time to read working in a library. Who would have thunk it? lol. I finished reading Old's Man War from Scalzi. It is good and I recommend it to anyone who is wanting to read some military science-fiction ala Robert Heinlein. I will read both sequel this summer. Anyone read it ? if yes, what were your thoughts about it ?
I started reading Phule's Paradise and will read the other 2 books in Phule's series that I have here before starting the Old's Man War sequels. Later,

Phule's Paradise is the second book in the series, correct? That book was a lot of fun and Phule really reminded me of Miles in that book. The other two books in the series where Asprin collaberated with another author were very disappointing, IMO.

Might like that one Eric. I tend to read all kinds of sci fi depending on my mood that day. Not much time for reading around here. I do
some but not as much as I was. My library job takes more time than I thought it would. You would figure you would have time to read if you work in a lib.
wrong. I am a cataloger. Put books in the system from records from Lib of Congress, OCLC, etc. So many things to know. yikes. Complicated. Well enough of my
rants tonight. lol. Take care. Chuck
