Island of the World by Michael O'Brien (Catholic Christian ficiton) - 8/10 (I deduct 2 points because some of the dialog is a bit stilted, but otherwise it's brilliant)
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (Jane Austen -- nuff said, she rocks my literary world) -- in progress
Deafening by Frances Itani 6/10 - interesting but not compelling
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova - 7/10 story rocked my world but had a couple of gaping holes

any plot that involves an Evil Undead Librarian has me at 'Hello', but the whole thing with the amnesia juice someone slips Rossi - where did THAT come from? Kostova never even TRIES to explain its origins or how it works; and why on EARTH would EUL pull the catalog cards? all that does is draw attention to the fact that they're important - not smart if you're trying to throw them off the scent

.. anyway, it's her first novel so I'll forgive her a few faux pas
Illiad by Homer (Robert Fagles translation) - hard to rate; passages are repeated verbatim (made oral transmition easier), so it's a bit of a slog but Homer is still a cornerstone of Western literature so I guess I'll stick with it and give it a pass at 6/10
